A dream come true in real life is like last year’s dandelions blooming into roses. This is when the virus that causes MS is discovered. Then a vaccine and new treatments are developed, and MS is no longer a menace. MS is the Crispr of life. It is a harsh and unrelenting editor of many abilities and activities. It is like a shredder. Thirty years of dandelions bloom into roses and my dream comes true.

My heart has been ripped straight up through my throat and right out of my head to the stars. You might feel loss like this too, but did you also know that a new spark can start a new fire that even warms my heart with forgiveness so that I can throw off my anger to dance with the wind again? Don’t you deserve to feel the freedom of forgiveness too? Don’t you deserve to dance with the wind again too?

This is a story about my mom’s romp through the woods in Jasper. I am grateful that she is mobile and active, even though she has survived breast cancer thirty years ago. My mom and her partner Tim were hiking in the mountains when the path they were on became narrower and narrower until it was only a mere goat path. Then the terrain became swampy and mom had to step through some moss, and her foot sank down into the wate...

It takes two to triumph

Our short secret journey from home.

I watched you windsurf for most of the day, The sails went back and forth with the occasional jump and twist and maybe a flip. This looks impressive to those of us who don’t do it ourselves. Afterwards, we went to a spot near the river where people were jumping off a cliff into the waters below. I went also, but when I looked over the edge, I froze.  People were watching from below with words of encouragement. “It’s easy...

Right now, Canadians are experiencing an unprecedented amount of stress and anxiety because of the pandemic, hoarding and isolation. Stores are closed, streets are empty, and there is shortage on the shelves of essential goods, such as toilet paper, kraft dinner, and cannabis supplies. Canadians have never faced such hardship. Comic relief is much needed therefore I am writing a parody of a famous rock band that I will ca...

Before The Tragically Hip made it big

Before The Tragically Hip made it big

This is a true story about teenagers helping other teenagers during a band project. This story connects Edmonton with what is now described as an Iconic Canadian Band... THE TRAGICALLY HIP.  On March 23, 1988, some friends and I were looking for whatever experience we could have, when someone saw a poster that a band called The Tragically Hip was doing a gig at Dancing Shoes, a small bar on the south side of the Mayfield...

May the angels look down on you this delightful dayMay they sense your love of lifeAnd grant you many blessings and much graceMay they touch your life with love and generosityThe way that you touch mine

This shredder is actually a long- term friend and bandmate of mine named Bruce.  He doesn’t describe himself as a shredder but rather a good hack. I have used artistic license to call him a shredder instead because it is not so complimentary to call someone a hack. He has played in numerous alternative campus rock pop-punk bands. Once, at Christmas time, his band was asked to play a Christmas carol. They came on stage. Th...

A NEW SPARK I wonder if you feel anything like I do. Do you long for the past, hate the present and fear the future?Has your heart been ripped up through your throat and straight out of your head up to the sky.You might feel something like thisBut do you also know that someday a new spark will start another fire?

The Rhythm of Silence

walking my dog by some mysterious birds

Do you rememberA special placeWhere the artistically woven branchesOf a long-dead treeTold unknown stories from years past? It is paved with asphalt now, Supporting the feet and wheels of commuters and visitors Enjoying the riverside view. The physical presence of that thoughtful landmark is now goneBut if you are quiet and very still, you might still feel it’s presence there.

Anticipating Everything And Nothing

A wise person once said that every relationship is good for two poems.

THE BEGINNING: Anticipating Everything and Nothing A warm, expansive feeling fills my chestAnd screams out inside of me --“I love you.”But I don’t say it out loudBecause I know you don’t trust the meaning of the words when spoken too soonAnd neither should I.  Romance lifts the soul and catches us on its wing,Creates new dreams, new wonders, new excitements. Love is that precious place inside of usThat lets us soar toward...

My Pseudonym

How I got a nickname

The name Drun is from when my younger brother was too young to say all the syllables of my name. He called me Adrun instead of Adrienne. Years later when he had a son of his own, our mother called me  Adrun to his son out of nostalgia and it seemed cute. Her grandson was having none of it so he corrected her by saying my name in three distinct syllables A - dree-en…….his grandma never called me Adrun again. However,  I do...

Waltzing Matilda

A drunk mystery woman appears at the care home social.

I had been living at the care home for a few months when the recreation committee decided to have an end of summer indoor street dance. It’s not that we didn’t have regular recreational events, we regularly had a pub night. Local musicians e.g. vocalists, guitarists, keyboardists & accordionists, who once played the club circuit, now found purpose and meaning in playing the care home circuit, providing live music to peopl...
