Spider Webs and Moonbeams

What strange bedfellows, nature does create.

Come sit with me, said the spider to the fly.Daylight's gone, moonbeams grace the sky. Glitter from the stars are captured in my web.Breaking night's darkness as sunbeams ebb. Visit for awhile, we can share a story or two.Growing our new friendship, don't be blue. You are safe with me, I mean you no harm.Enjoy our time together, no need for alarm. Make yourself comfy, fold in your tiny wings. I won't try to ensnare you in...

Natures' Sculpture

Is it bona fide, or is it only me?

An image captured,Droplets enraptured,Within a crystal glimmer. Refracted lights shimmer,Holding for just a moment,Much more than a quotient. Creatures encapsulated,Not moving nor animated,Held frozen cryogenically. Invisible to a wandering eye,From a picture one can spy,The illustrations drawn within. Water drops freezing skin on skin,Prisoners inside an icicle's confine,Many illuminations brightly shine. Is it only me?...

We Will Be Gods

A detailed description of man's reduced state after a non traditional apocalypse.

It was a strange creature, the size of a cat, with an extremely stocky build. Its face was so flat that it was nearly concave. Its eyes looked in all different directions, marbles spinning in sockets too big, and its thick wavy black fur stuck out in randomly-directed, coarse tufts. Its most prominent feature was its disproportionately large rump. It didn’t nibble or pull at the clover, but more so slammed its face into t...

Winter's Warmth

Sometimes you just have to stop and smell the snow flakes.

Snow cascades from the trees. Avalanches flowing down their trunks, gathering at the base like waterfalls. Are they breathing in the soft afternoon breeze,or are they shivering from winter's cold? Shaking and quivering, trying to stay warm. Dropping the weight from their limbs, creating snow storms of their own. Nature's beauty on display everywhere one looks. Ribbons sag and wiggle along the fence tops, creations like not...

Winter Moon

Birth of a new moon always excites.

As you come into view. Warmth courses through my veins. Removing all my blue. Freeing my heart of locks and chains. Elation awaits in the queue. Building immunity to my pains. Darkness again we'll bid adieu. Liberated, your brightness reigns. Upon the wind, songs they brew. Relieving most of life's strains. Paint across your pallet threw. Shadow on a cloud remains. A Winter Moon begins anew. Brightening the sky and snowy...

That Night

There is only one existence

The night that I was by the sea,I heard the sea speak to me. The night that I sat by the waves Watching the moon rise red, The night that the waters were splashing Making me listen to them, The night that sea tried to wake me Washing away my impurity, The night that I witnessed so red Calling me to rise after sunset The night that had the half moon Rising from the sea deep dark, The night that red caressed me, The waves s...

The slate grey clouds are running 'cross the skyWhile hail and rain bombard the ground belowAnd lightning bolts illuminate the showAs howling winds attempt to make me fly The cattle taking refuge where they canWild creatures hide in shelter, yet they knowThat naught is safe from angry gusts that blowMore forceful than the force controled by man Its unleashed fury forcing me to dealWith all the fear these powers do arouse...

Golden Gate Days

A day in the life living in San Francisco many years ago.

I wandered Golden Gate Park, On one of the most perfect days. The air was clear, With my mind in a haze. The park was almost empty. Few people walked, Kids played games. I stopped to listen, a young man talked. He bored me, so I continued on. I saw another man singing a song. I stopped and watched him. I sat and sang along. A small breeze blew. It lifted his notes into the air. His voice carried with them. It made a tale...

A Close Encounter

I have my own close encounter.

Driving through the rolling prairie of Wyoming was boring. The children sat at the table reading books. My wife sat in the other captain's chair, as I drove. Our destination was Devils Tower National Monument. Verdant rolling fields of grass covered this area of our country. The road I drove was two lanes wide and snaked through the countryside. As I drove around one of the many rolling hills, Devil's Tower loomed ahead....

Haunted Woods

Don't go into the woods alone.

The walk seemed different today. I lived near these woods almost all my life. I played in the woods. I built many little hovels using branches and undergrowth as cover. Instead of going through neighbor's yards to get to the woods, I walked down the street to the private road that bisected the woods. A local university owned the woods and the road. The university received the woods in an endowment as a place to study and...

Through a Child's Eyes

This was our trip through The Badlands.

The sun rose behind us, as I drove my motor home out of the campground in St. Mary's, Montana. We headed west, our destination Badlands National Park in North Dakota. This was the end of the first week of a five-week trip driving around America. The girls sat at the table playing games and watched, as the miles flew by. They giggled and yelled, when they saw something they liked. We drove I-90 from Montana into North Dako...

The Owl

Red in tooth and claw

fat andfeathery-soft,deceptively weightless;he floats, a skilful sackful ofether,on invisiblewaves.he silhouettes againstthe moon’s palecircle, growing with his deadlydescent.and in each of his watchfuleyes the image of a blackrat, fearless yetunwaryprey, fills all his vision.as he swoops tomurder, a raucous cryrips open the black star-pockedsky-dome; the cold beak tears alsothe warm living flesh, and gives the lieto angels...

This Is the Night

An old poem I thought I should publish after being reminded of it by summer's beautiful nights.

The dark envelops the world, wielding a sharp blade against the light. Shadows sink on over brooding souls.  Oh yes, this is the forthcoming night. The sun bleeds upon misty skies like red and orange coloring a blank sheet; as diamond rain onto bracken earth spills, brightness and black finally in a waltz meet and like a blown candle flame, the light disappears. Twinkling eyes form over the black firmament of sky, watchin...

I Remember...

A granddaughter speaks of her sweet memories. Forgive me if I've divided my verses incorrectly.

I remember the sweet scent of my grandmother, ginger and honey, her long gray braid swaying in the breeze streams of curling white on a gleaming silver ribbon. I remember the tiny cabin out in the woods, a quaint wooden box in the shape of a home; picture-perfect, a spitting image of a fairytale house where every dream came true. I remember the smell of the woods  and lemonade high in the air and the profile of singing bi...

I love it, this heat The scorching sun that sizzles on tar roads The searing metal of a seat belt buckle. Sure we complain One hundred and seventeen degrees Farenheit Some sadistic streak lets us enjoy The strolling walk in golf. Our shade is the long pole shadow Of a saguaro cactus Our drink is in the Holy Grail Of a mirage, untouchable There is little more precious than a good glass of water And a good deal of shade. Sh...
