Once loving words turn hateful
Warmth succumbs to frigid frost
The greatest joy becomes dull
While tomorrow's hope is lost
This has been the life I know
A truth always and constant
And so my defenses grow
Walls built to house a giant
To keep others protected
Safe from my own inner gray
And myself from future dread
But there is a price to pay
A lover’s sensual grace
A bright smile in gratitude
Or merely a warm embrace
All give way to solitude
You're left so hungry for more,
While trapped in forever gloom
All you want to do is soar
But you've left yourself no room
