At 10 your life begins and you don’t seem to have a care.

You soar to heights with your first kiss and fly where eagles dare.

Then you notice different friends who have so many curves and curls.

And wonder at these thoughts you have about so many girls.

At 20 just less than man and skilled in social arts.

You work all day til the sun goes down and that’s when your life really starts.

Like a cobra coiled you hunt your prey and bring them to your lair.

Life’s a game where there are no rules and all is fair and square.

At 30 you have been to war and think nothing of its stigma.

Life has changed and suddenly it’s rules create quite an enigma.

A stallion prancing and standing guard over what he thinks his domain.

Answers once known have all disappeared and only questions remain.

At 40 still proud with mane of hair and rumble of lion’s roar.

You’ve slipped a little in a predator world not skilled as once before.

Turning heads and silent whispers circle around the room.

The clock has ticked and the bells have begun to sound alarm and doom.

At 50 you limp but still pack a punch if push ever came to shove.

Your tastes have evolved and your desire has changed from lust into love.

Like an Alpha dog growling when in hunt and catching musky scent.

A life’s worth of saving good over bad and now all your credits are spent.

At 60 your friend in the mirror has a stranger become a candle without light.

Not toothless yet they all should fear an old bear who still has some bite.

You wonder at the loss of chance and what you would give to start again.

Yet mornings too early and nights too soon the hours they all seem to blend.

At 70 hell has frozen over and the earth awaits your marker.

The wind is colder the sun less hot and your life couldn’t look any starker.

You try to make a deal with God and maybe hedge your bet.

“Son” he says “you’re out of luck.. that animal hasn’t been made yet!”
