I’m sitting here, watching a film called It Might Get Loud. If you’ve not seen it, it’s a documentary about the guitar. Well, that was its aim, but it seems to have turned into a bit of a jam with Jimmy Page, Jack White and Edge. I love how Jimmy and Jack are so perfectly matched. They’re what I’d call natural guitarists. Edge is good in has own way, but not as good as Jack or Jimmy. Jack and Jimmy together, in concert, would be something to see.

This all sparked a thought in me. A realisation: I love guitars. I’ve been paying too much attention to technique and what’s the best guitar and shit like that, but I haven’t been playing. Not lately. Okay, I have an excuse because I need new strings. See, I bought new tuners for Frieda and threw the strings out. I have no money, yet, to replace them, so I’ve been playing the occasional acoustic guitar. My acoustic is good, but I like Freida. I rotate spellings, by the way. I realised, also, that there’s this argument: Fender vs Gibson. Well, I have an Epiphone, which is hardly a kick in the pants away from Gibson. It’s the difference between... I have no idea how to say it in non-guitar terms, but they’re the cheaper version of Gibson, basically. So, I realised that I’ve been drooling over a Fender. Specifically a Telecaster. I’ve become accustomed to Epiphones, so I’m basically an Epi fan with fantasies of Fender. Kinda messed up, but what the hey!

So, now I’m thinking: A Gibson neck on a Fender body. Impossible! Well, possible, but with loads of modifications. I’m more of a get out there and play kind guy. Hand me a guitar and I’ll try and play it. I’m not that good. Heck, I ain’t no Jimmy Page (he’s a fucking God!), but I can handle my own riffage. I’m missing Mr Tangle. New bridge is needed for him. He’s a troublesome bugger! My only bass, too, which I feel more at home with. I love the bass. Just feels more me, though I’ll play a guitar if it is to hand.

Anyway, enough about that, even though I could talk about it all night. God, my fingers are fast. My mind is going fast, no, not fast - quickly, tonight. Jimmy Page is playing Kashmir! My head is nodding, I’m happy and I’m writing like fury I’ve got some ideas and life seems to be good. Lack of punctuation there signifies me going fast. My thoughts are just going bonkers.

Here, you, hand me a guitar

Nor fist.

I may have fallen from the path of player,
but I still feel the need to just play
Fuck the technique just play
I’m gonna!

That’s pretty much my philosophy. Gonna go now.
