Rufus finished his work and headed to the wee cosy cafe. He was excited about meeting Cynthia again, but nervous, too. Heā€™d been working pretty hard that day, despite not having much to do. The computer he was inspecting was being a right bam. It was in such ill health, it took him all day just to reformat a hard drive and then there was the added hassle of having to reinstall all programs and configure them individually. His exhaustion was permitted, then. He just couldnā€™t wait to see Cynthia. Itā€™s what kept him going, really.

Cynthiaā€™s day wasnā€™t much better. She had had hundreds of customers complaining in her face and just generally being nutcases. Was it her fault that they didnā€™t know how to work their new appliance? ā€˜Idiots, maybe they should learn to read. Ooh, Rufus tonight, hehe, canā€˜t wait!ā€™ she thought.

Rufus sat at the same table that the pair had sat at before and waited for Cynthia to arrive. When she walked in the door, he was really happy, that much was obvious.

ā€œCynthia! Hello, you look lovely.ā€ He smiled and got up to kiss her hand.

ā€œAw, thanks, but I know I donā€™t!ā€ That was the truth, she was all bedraggled from the howling wind and lashing rain.

ā€œWell, you always look good, at least you have the few times Iā€™ve seen you,ā€ Rufus smiled.

ā€œCharmer, you trying to make me blush?ā€ Smiled Cynthia.

ā€œWell, you are really very cute when you blush... So, we ordering?ā€

ā€œSure, whatcha havinā€™?ā€ Cynthia tried to control her blush, but to no avail.

ā€œIā€™ll just have a tea, please. You want me to come over to the counter with you?ā€

ā€œNo, itā€™s fine, just stay put.ā€

ā€œCool.ā€

ā€˜Charming sexy man,ā€™ Cynthia thought.

When Cynthia returned, she had in her hand a tray holding two cups of tea and two giant slices of rather huge, yummy and decadent-looking chocolate fudge cake.

ā€œWow, that looks like quite the feast!ā€ drooled Rufus.

ā€œYeah, itā€™s rather large, but the woman said it was pretty light and tasty. I think sheā€™s just saying that because she baked it, though,ā€ giggled Cynthia cutely.

ā€œWell, hereā€™s hoping it lives up to its yummy looking expectations.ā€

ā€œAye.ā€

The random pair got on exceedingly well, sipping their teas and eating their cakes. Their knees kept bumping against one another under the table, which caused much excitement and blushing arising from said excitement.

They finished their tea and cake and kept giggling to, at and with one another.

ā€œCan I ask you something?ā€ A serious look came over Cynthia.

ā€œSure, gā€™head,ā€ Rufus kept his calm exterior, whilst inside his heart was pounding.

ā€œIs this a date?ā€

ā€œWell, um...ā€ Rufus scratched his head and looked about awkwardly ā€œ... do you want it to be?ā€

ā€˜Rufus, how bloody lame can you be?ā€™ he thought.

ā€œWell, yeah. I mean, I know we only just met, but I like you and... well, youā€™re, um, fun to be around,ā€ Cynthia blushed.

ā€œThen a date it is! For the record, I think youā€™re pretty darned cool, too. Wanna go back to mine? Free tea and all that.ā€

ā€œUh, well, I dunno,ā€ Cynthia hesitated.

As much as she fancied Rufus, she didnā€™t know if she could trust him yet. He seemed trustworthy enough, though.

ā€œItā€™s cool, no pressure.ā€

ā€œActually, why not? If you turn out to be a deranged axe murderer, then at least Iā€™ll die happy.ā€

ā€œCool, lemme just call a cab.ā€

Rufus got out his phone and called a cab. He really didnā€™t like talking on the phone, but sometimes it was just unavoidable.

ā€œRight, thatā€™s that, shall we?ā€

ā€œSure.ā€

Rufus rolled a cigarette and light it up.

ā€˜Should I tell her?ā€™ he wondered. ā€˜If I donā€™t, she might end up finding out anyway. Damn, what do I do?ā€™

Cynthia noticed his expression:

ā€œDeep thoughts?ā€

ā€œCynthia?ā€

ā€œYeah.ā€

ā€œI need to tell you something and youā€™ve got to promise not to freak out, okay?ā€

ā€œWhat is it? Got a body stashed or something?ā€

ā€˜Something like that,ā€™ he thought.

ā€œWell, you see, I donā€™t live alone. Um, I need to tell you this, in case she doesnā€™t like it...ā€

ā€œ...She?ā€ Cynthia cut Rufus off.

ā€œWell, it feels a bit strange saying this... but, Iā€™ve got a ghost. Her name is Amy and sheā€™s pretty... Well, possessive, I guess you could say.ā€

ā€œWhat a real live ghost? You ainā€™t shitting me, right?ā€

ā€œNo, Iā€™m not, Ms Pun-maker.ā€

ā€œCool, can I meet her?ā€

The cab drew up and they got in, confirming that they were getting in the correct one.

ā€œWeā€™ll see. Iā€™m not promising anything, despite her possessiveness, sheā€™s pretty shy around new people.ā€

ā€œI see, well, hereā€™s hoping.ā€

The cab journey was fun, with elbow jabbing and shared personal jokes. The cab driver smiled.

ā€˜Cute couple,ā€™ he thought.

The cab finally rounded the corner and arrived at Rufusā€™ flat and he got out first and offered his hand to help Cynthia out of it and paid the driver.

ā€˜Perfect gentleman,ā€™ Cynthia smiled.

When they entered the flat, Amy was hiding, but Rufus could feel her presence.

ā€œCuppa tea?ā€ Rufus offered Cynthia.

ā€œPlease.ā€

ā€œCool. Amy, donā€™t go scaring Cynthia, now!ā€

Rufus went to the kitchen with Cynthia following close behind and made preparations for the tea. Finally, Amy came out of hiding...
