You Know

In every love, there is a moment of clarity

In the moment of a second A second moment gives pause. There’s listening to the wind When there is no breeze. There’s watching a rainbow In the darkness of night. There’s the tap of raindrops On moon-soaked skin. There’s the scent of a rose In dense forests of oak. None make sense, Yet there’s a pause. There’s a second or less. There’s a moment of knowing. When in the moment of a second That second moment is clear. When i...

What weather brews?

An unexpected storm changed everything

What weather brewed behind me? I knew not. Maybe snow? Could fog be rolling in? Then thunder clapped. Lightning skittered across the sky causing me to turn toward reality. The wind -- she -- embraced me. The rain -- she -- filled my heart. The fire -- she -- lit my soul ablaze. The storm changed everything. She changed everything. What weather brews behind me? I worry not. She changed everything.

Few can see it comingBut oh yes it will comeLike a rising ball of magmaAs hot as the burning sunThrough the rock it is pushingBuilding, rising every dayMaybe you cannot see itMaybe you hope it will go awayBut oh yes it is comingSee the fissures in the landBoiling clefts of dissentTalk of which is bannedWhispers, quiet whispersHush now, the powers come“Stop the wicked words,” they say“Back to your mental slum.”But the sear...

Bibliophilia

Who doesn't want a booklover for a friend

Immersed inside a book outside a storeThe lady stopped, involved in stories deep.To break into her mind might prove a boorBut surely one could ask to take a peep. What novel had she found inside the stall,A queer old book or volume bound in calf?Perchance a quaint old tale to hold in thrall? One hopes it isn't just some worthless chaff. A strong allure is built from many quirksDisplayed while one has lost oneself inside.A...

From a Distance

The dark night of a soul

Her visage glimpsed above a balustradeAnd from a distance wonderment arose.Enchanting, pristine character most staid,Serenely dreaming, peaceful, at repose. Perhaps she is not tranquil deep inside,It might be true that passions roil within. Her face may not reflect all she may hideRepressed, unseen, proud fantasies therein.  The two of us might share supernal glee,Together we should seek romantic thrills.Devotion offers ho...

I'd been sent by my editor to interview a local poet on the occasion of his ninetieth birthday. The poet was a well-known face around town, but was now in a retirement home. "Be sensitive," my editor had said, "if he’s not all there." It turned out that the poet was as sharp as glass. Of course, he was physically frail and sat awkwardly in a wheelchair, but the biggest trouble with him was that he did not want to reminisc...

May We Return

Remember our time before this time

May we returnto the place, we've never been? I knew you oncewhen we were young, you must have livedbefore. Yearning for a timewhen youth enveloped me in joy;were you there? It seems you must have beenthough impossible,to be sure. Not yet born. But living, alive,in my yearning for that time. Knowing the pleasures, the moods of sharingthe precious timestogether. Browsing, fingers touching each other, along with the books upon the...

Yes Man

An unwilling 'yes man' gets his revenge

You taught me to be a 'yes man'You ground me down like saltI once was full of questionsNow I ignore every faultYou taught me to be a 'yes man'You hated to hear 'no'So if you walk towards a cliffI'll just smile and let you go

As I sit upon the meadow,a dreamlike world at ease, the rushes, elms, and grasses, caressed by lazy evening breeze. The sunset glows on honeyed towers, the gentle river flows behind,if only this could last forever,if only nothing preyed upon my mind. But I know they're coming, soon a rabble through the gate, vicious thugs come to smite me,and condemn me to my fate.I spoke truth to power, yes I did,but the power spat it back,an e...

I can

Oh yes I can... and so can you!

In a fog of dread, I'm cast awayTo drift unnoticed through the bayOf timid flame, and fight forgotI clutch the mast of “I cannot”But deep inside, the embers burnWith trial and error, I slowly learnA thousand thoughts, a journey longTo build a furnace oh so strongThen my spark, I'll re-igniteOut shall pour my blinding lightAblaze inside, I'll be that manWho stands up tall and says, "I can."

Drained

Break ups can be difficult

Your face says it all, you are goingI plead like I'm sent to the nooseNo combination of begs I find workingTears gush through a wide-open sluiceJoy pours away, I am leakingDread fills the vacuum insideI see my love and my joy and my passionRetreat like the draw of the tides.Goodbye slips through my fingersHope flows away like a streamI am left grey, cold and emptyA skin devoid of a dream.

The Wang-wang-pede

If you go down to the beach today, you're in for a big surprise...

A wang-wang-pede rose from 'neath the seaAnd sclobbered towards the beachOn seven and twenty tenticlawsWith a retching craw-craw screechHe flared his squinty nostrilsThen snapped his clack-clack beakHis tenticlaws grabbed man and childAnd he slapped his glob-glob cheeksSoldiers came with their woof-woof gunsFired shots to schlump him deadBut they should have shot his flub-flub gutNot his hardy thick-boned headBescreeching...

I am the sea

Oneness with the ocean

As I sit upon the ancient sandWith the faithful sun aboveMy eyes relax in hypnotic calmAs the sea laps with eternal loveSwashing waves of tendernessPush up the satin shoreGentle hands of massageWhich glide down again once moreComfort's sigh infusesAs the sea does glint and danceWith salt-air in my nostrilsI merge into a tranceNo reflection of past or futureIntrudes my supine mindI am there with the watersWe ebb and flow c...

The effervescent weightlessness shattered Fractures of delight mingled in the air Puncturing, slicing, battered Strange how the intangible can tear    Scrambling with haste Eye's flaming with veracity  Time lost was not a waste Stone cold tenacity    Though those pieces are lost Irreplaceable fragments of length  It is in the frost, Where we find strength
