“This has gone on too long,” I stood and declared.
“It’s time we were a family and let our innermost thoughts be shared.”
My brother turned around and my sister laughed in mirth
“If you want to talk,” said she, “then tell me, what is communication worth?”

“What is communication worth?” repeated I
“Well it’s worth everything to anyone, even those who are shy!
Communication is trust! It’s friendship and love!
It’s how we speak to the spirits above!”

“Perhaps that’s true,” my sister agreed, “that is perfectly clear,”
“And what you’re saying I hear,
But for talking and speaking we have messaging and text–“
“Silence,” cried I, “you’re making me quite vexed.”

“Communication isn’t text or even mail!
It’s being with your family every day without fail!
It’s looking into your eyes–” here I stopped for breath
Just to realize that I was boring my siblings to death!

Eric was back on watching T.V.,
And June was not even looking at me.
Depressed, I sat down asking “why?”
Looking for answers I stared at the sky.

“Aha!” I said, and sprang from my chair
Nearly tripping over June’s expanse of hair,
I stood triumphantly and declared
“You’re arguing because you have something you don’t want shared!”

The explanation was perfect, flawless, and smart
I was sure it had something to do with a broken heart.
“Communication is great! Eric thinks so too!
But there’s a secret that belongs to you!”

“You don’t want us talking because you know that soon,
It’s going to be your turn, June!”
My sister flushed red,
“That’s nonsense,” she said.

“Then why are you pink?” asked I,
June snapped: “because–because oh, you know why!”
Eric looked up with a laugh and a snort
“Oh she’s got you there June, now be a good sport!”

My plan was working! It was working great!
Everyone was chuckling! There was no hate!
I congratulated myself for a job well done,
Then I told my siblings to come with me into the sun!

We splashed in puddles! There was not a device nor thing!
June was so happy she began to sing!
“Oh we are a family, we got rid of our things!
Now we splash in puddles while June sings!”
(She wasn’t very good, but that was all right,
I didn’t say anything, lest I begin a fight.)

The End
