At my desk for a little while
I'm told to go into a meeting
I remember how everybody smiled
He approached me with a greeting

Thanks for meeting me
I have bad news to convey 
I must let you go you see
You'll get your severance pay

We're letting people go
Our company is downsizing
You'll get your stocks in escrow
I know this is rather surprising

All accumulated vacation days
Will be given to you in a check
I wish there was another way
The boss fixed his tie at his neck

I've worked here for many years
I assumed I'd retire here
My thoughts were very unclear
Many years worked as an engineer

I really was absolutely shocked
I didn't know what to say
I noticed the door was locked
This turned into an awful day

I cleaned out my office and my desk
I walked to the elevator door
I just left said no goodbyes
Entered the elevator leaving the floor

I felt humiliated in my car
I thought my boss was a prick
Drove away went to a bar
I always knew my boss was a dick

I called my wife told her the news
She felt bad but what can you do
Said we should probably take a cruise
Had money now from vacation unused

After I got over the loss of my job
Went away with my darling wife
After the trip called my headhunter Bob
This would be a new chapter in my life
