Build a bridge with crumbling bricks
And fall into the depths below.
Ask a token of an ancient princess
And watch the moths fly from her scarf.
Bake the bread of welcoming with weevil-ridden flour
And bring it freshly spoiled from the oven.
Feed the sparrows an empty worm skin
And watch them flutter away with empty bellies.
Put some flowers in a cracked vase
And see them strive for pooling water.
Challenge a cripple to run a race
And heed her crawling until she bleeds.
Ask what you want of Uselessness
And receive an answer flawed,
For the best is never good enough,
Though its heart may wish it so.
