Spring has sprung you can feel it in the air
Birds chirping
Squirrels throw acorns from the tree tops
Breakfast in their bellies, backpacks on
First day back from Easter vacation
Get in line, drop them at the curbside
Hugs and kisses before I go
Off to the office, paperwork and meetings
Then, an emergency message on the radio
Shots fired!
My children's school!
I drive back in terror
Are they hiding under tables
Or in a closet twenty-seven full
Barriers and police, I can't get near the building
I embrace my daughter from her teacher's arms
Policeman tells me, "Your son is gone."
Local politician comes up to me
Says, 'Our thoughts and prayers are with you."
Hold her tight now don't you worry
See there, the good guys are here to save them
You see it was an angry man, not his gun!
You see it was an angry man, not his gun!
You see! IT WAS AN ANGRY MAN! NOT HIS GUN!
YOU SEE! IT WAS AN ANGRY MAN! NOT HIS GUN!
My daughter asks in a soft and quiet voice,
"How many angry men are there daddy?"
As my heart falls apart inside me
I cry, "Too many my love."
