these walls defend the seed that grows
as root and stem extend their throws
no angry mob, no crippling gale
can cause the seedling spread to fail

these walls allow the plant to think
to find it's own internal sync
to see the sky and see the ground

these walls rebound the tempting call
of those who'd see the progress stall
as flowers bloom and scent extends
these walls call time the best of friends

but as the branches reach some more
within those walls, they find a flaw
and bit by bit, the cracks all grow
till crumbling to the Earth they go

but now the roots are fathoms deep
and branches tough and wide of sweep
and all the world can see the tree
behind those walls had come to be
