The vampire tried to bite me, in a dream I had once -
Instead, he bit my finger.
I woke up with my heart pounding -
My finger hurt.

The vampire was someone I adored -
He glided through my days like a slim, dark silhouette -
He was always quiet – quiet, I thought,
Because he was elegant and reserved -
Quiet, then I learned, because he had no soul.

I tried to kiss the vampire one night -
We were standing outside in damp and cold air,
Mist swirling.
I kissed him on the cheek -
Then, I kissed him on the lips.
I closed my eyes – I kissed him again, and he touched my face -
Like he was holding me back,
Like he was caressing me -
When I opened my eyes, my throat hurt.

The vampire liked dark movie theatres.
He liked to walk alone, at night.

In my dream, I thought I loved the vampire -
But when he leaned to kiss me,
His teeth glistened in the moonlight -
And I was afraid.
