Lilacs abudding,
Showers and rainclouds scudding
Roe deer still rutting.
Soon creatures cower,
Heavy the sense of power
Above the bower.
Here a dragon flies,
A single black raven cries
The warning just dies.
********************
Landing in the blooms,
The dragon rests as it grooms
Latent fear yet looms.
Fearsome head turns round,
Hearing soft steps on the ground
He takes a great bound.
True beauty so sweet,
The dragon lands on his feet
His surprise complete.
********************
Sniffing with his nose,
This damsel smelt like a rose
And wore silken clothes.
Struck with a notion,
Dour dragon felt emotion
Heart in commotion.
They both felt no fears,
A knight suddenly appears
His frightful sword rears.
********************
His mission was clear,
All damsels he should hold dear
And this one was near.
The knight's sword did sing,
The dragon struck in his wing
He felt the steel's sting.
Crying out in vain,
The damsel felt the same pain,
This knight was her bane
********************
He cried out his glee,
The damsel's thin knife at knee
Was withdrawn and free.
The dragon was lost,
The damsel counted the cost
Her weapon she tossed.
The knight turned so pale,
Pulled the knife out of his mail
His quest he did fail.
********************
Knight upon the sward,
The damsel had her reward
As the dragon roared.
Wing soothed with her balm,
The dragon held out his palm
To the damsel calm.
Flowers were blooming,
The dragon she was grooming
With true love looming.
