The Fool In The Rain

"I followed you...I had to know"

Restaurant windows blazing light
Over rain slicked pavement.
Warm glow embracing you as you enter.
I remain in the limbo of the night,
Watching you from across the green.
The silent watcher in the park
Staring through the drizzling dark,
Concealed in dripping shadows.

A figure rises, moves to greet you,
Auburn tresses haloed in light.
I see her hand take yours,
Your arm pulling her close.
Your soft lips meet.
She's beautiful. I loathe her.
Who is she, this slut,
This bitch that's ruptured my life
And stolen my love?
Why couldn't you practice deceit
Until it was perfect?
Then I wouldn't be here
Wrenched apart and broken.
Wouldn't have followed.
I'd be at what was home, unaware.
Wholly ignorant but whole.
Not weeping in this cold dark hell,
Bleeding burning tears of anguish
To mingle with cold rain in the gutter.

Desolate and numb I stir,
Lifting dead, misted eyes.
Gazing through a window
Streaked with tears.
In another world your head tilts,
Perfect lips curled in silent laughter.
And every head turns to rest cold, mocking eyes
On the fool in the rain.
