My love and I will never truly be parted in this life
For our love is true, and too secure ever to be shaken
By the caprice of storms and tempests that toss us to and fro.
Even though there will be many times of sharp pain and sorrow,
Casting a doleful shadow across the landscape of our joy,
The sun will eventually return, with its promise of life,
And delicate shoots of happiness will shyly force their way
Through the dead litter of our former lives, resplendent with love.
But for a brief while we have agreed to live separate lives,
Each of us to pursue and nurture other relationships,
To laugh and play with old friends whom we have sadly neglected,
Or to make new ones from the people we meet on our travels.
My dear one and I will pluck a rich harvest of sweet delight
With other loves, rising on clouds of rapture above the world
Of mundane concerns and daily labour in the fields of woe.
But of this I am completely sure, that the time will come again
When we shall dance together among the stars, eternally one,
United for all time in our new world of heavenly bliss.
