The path was clear

The way well lit

No surprises no unexpected twists

The choices were clean

Simply black and white

I dutifully followed

Stepped well within the lines

Then came turns bends and bumps

The choices got harder

The way seemed lost

I found myself muddling through

I could not see the light

I did not know what was right

Every choice affects the next

If only I knew what the future would hold

But that would be too easy

Too simple too perfect

No longer following

But leading myself

It's hard when the choices fall to you

Hard to stick to it and see it through

I hold my breath and take a step

No way to know

Just hope for the best

Black and white have blurred to gray

Night has come in place of day

I try a trail a path a lane

I try and fail and try again

No guarantees no promises

Just choices today

Hopes for tomorrow

Where is the clear path of the past

When did it all get so messy

Why am I in the thick of it

I try to rise above the mess

Try to do what seems the best

Try as I might I seem to lose

Rare is the win and rare is truth

So on with today enough reminiscing

Time for action

Quickly time is ticking

Onward forward let's see it through

Life never goes as it's supposed to

Remember you're not alone

We all are walking too

Walking through today just like you
