my tears burst forth
from their prison bank,
where they have been from the beginning,
where they had lived with my pain,
swam in my sorrow and
survived my nightmares.
I let them go
for to stop them will do no good.
in cascading rivulets
they travel down my face
to comfort me,
to soothe me.
and as they leave
they turn to me and say
worry not old friend,
wipe us away
for there are more of us
in you.
