Have I missed something? What is happening?
Is it getting worse or is it just me?
So many stories, poems, and musings
Seem to be offered without editing.
And when you give an honest opinion
You are called a grammar nazi or worse.
Should you just pass it off and forget it,
Aware that it may be unimportant
In this new world of pain and suffering
And when we know these folks are still learning.
Are they truly attempting to improve?
Not if rejecting honest appraisals
That are given with graciousness and love.
The worst of the situation, of course,
Is enablers who will not tell the truth.
The educated and talented folks
Whose misplaced caring is not a favor,
But rather, gives hope to those who need truth.
Understand this, I am not always right.
Mistakes are common in my own works, too,
But I am willing and able to change
Whenever I find I have missed the mark.
Good and dear people should always help me
If I fall short of my own potential
And misspell or misuse or lose the thread
Of my point when writing my creations.
Is it possible we can all agree
That being our best can only be good,
And letting the editing errors grow
Can only and really destroy our art?
My reason for jotting down this blank verse
Is simple enough, I love fine writing.
Take this tedious screed with my blessings.
Accept it or reject it, it's your right.
But please remember that literature
Can raise us all up and enrich our lives.
