Looking at a picture, you are captured in time.
So long ago, it sends good chills up my spine.
You toiled together to make the bare land go.
Made a home, a place for your children to grow.
I never had a chance to meet either of you.
Searching for my roots made me feel blue.
Two children, a boy who would become my dad.
The other one, a pretty girl, my auntie you had.
I have been to the place known as The Ranch.
Proud I am, on your tree to be a small branch.
Not knowing my father at all after my birth.
I searched and dreamed for what it was worth.
Looking for the man who had given part of my beginning.
Half forming the mould, that started my DNA spinning.
The summer I was fourteen we were finally reunited.
Filled with feelings of apprehension, but also excited.
I found I had a half brother and a baby half sister.
That sure set this young teen's mind into a twister.
When I first set eyes on your son, I could not believe.
I'd found my father, nearly more than I could conceive.
Looking into his eyes was like looking into a mirror.
Finding where I come from, made life a bit clearer.
I now had the foundation, for finding the other half of my family tree.
Something I dreamed of, which had mostly been out of reach for me.
Dad and my auntie are now both back with you.
When the time comes, we will finally meet too!
"The tree can grow tall and straight even though some of the roots are unknown.
Not knowing who you are, or where your existence began can be an encumbrance, but it should never be an excuse."
