Flames
As I gazed at the flames of the fire
Smouldering embers pulled me away
To my never land where I could dream
Of all the things that I wanted to say
Of all the things I ever wanted to do
Of all the things I could ever aspire
But dreaming dreams meant little to you
As I gazed at the flames of the fire
As I gazed at the flames of the fire
I fought with reason and its sensible step
Forgiving sin and its bastard sons
I wrestled torment and its bitter breath
I lay my hands at your empty soul
And for your love how I required
But your laughter and catastrophe
Made me gaze once again at the flames of the fire
As I gazed at the flames of the fire
I could hear your screams try to pull me away
Your angry tears scrubbed away at your face
Your bloody nails tore their way across mine
So many stones have been thrown in this place
And for what was here once, we should build us a pyre
Time has been here for us, now it’s on its way once more
Leaving me to gaze at the flames of the fire
