Beyond the veil, I cannot see;
Does his heart still beat for me?
Is mi amor forevermore?
🌹
Día de Muertos soothes my splintered heart,
Pleading death does not keep souls apart.
I lay one rose on my lover’s grave,
A sign he’s here, I desperately crave.
🌹
Black lines crisscross upon my lips;
Lips he once traced with tender fingertips.
His favorite flowers adorn my hair;
Inked roses embrace on skin left bare.
🌹
With papel picado upon the grass;
Through its holes, his soul does pass.
I tremble, “Mi corazón, can this be?
My heart thought you’d forsaken me.”
🌹
“Amorcito!” he cries as our bodies entwine,
I touch his face, and he touches mine.
“Open your mind to things unknown,” he pleas,
Before a hungry kiss weakens my knees.
🌹
“Death did take my body from sight,
But now, see me in the twinkling star-filled night.
In your dreams, I paint pictures of the hereafter,
Where I still feel your pain and hear your laughter.
🌹
“Warmth is not the sun, but my embrace;
My breath is the breeze on your enchanting face.
I’m the mist in the morn that touches your skin;
In cover of darkness, I’m the stir from within.
🌹
“I’m in the air you breathe, you must never fear,
Watching, protecting, always near.
Eres mi todo!” he valiantly cries,
Kisses catch teardrops from my joyful eyes.
🌹
We make love atop the moon-dripped altar;
Even in death, his passion does not falter.
This night brings faith his love is true,
And when I wake, one rose is two.
🌹
Beyond the veil, I cannot see,
But I know his heart still beats for me.
He’s mi amor forevermore!
