A hungry lion can end a life quickly,
A little snake venom can render a man permanently sickly.
Pretty roses too can prickle and make a person bleed,
But of all these dangers it’s a childish heart you should most heed.
A childish heart wanders wildly going wherever it pleases,
Its reckless antics endure pain, but its wandering never ceases.
It walks on rocky ground, over broken glass and wildfire,
It thinks those are all as friendly as that pretty little liar.
Sometimes it goes into quicksand and starts to go down,
Other times it goes into the deep end and starts to drown.
It sees a safe path but chooses the uncut trail,
Oh, foolish heart your selfish antics never fail.
The brain plays the parent, restraining him with violent reality,
It’s like strapping him wet to a chair and applying electricity.
The brain breaks him into pieces then constructs him once more,
The healing process begins until he thinks he sees he can score.
This childish heart of mine escapes his restraints once more,
Forgetting all the hurt, he endured a thousand times before.
He runs ahead happily blind to all dangerous matters,
Brain better prepare he’ll return soon in tatters.
