Cages or Wings

I used to think a cage would suffice.

Food.
Shelter.
Comfort.
A sense of belonging.

Seems like a good deal.

Until they turn the key and steal your freedom.

Trapped.
Yet, you’re living the “good life”.

The view from the outside looking in—
It’s a lie.

Trade your spirit for some dirt and water.
See how long you stay sane.
See how long you feel comfortable.

You can brainwash yourself.

That’s a common one.

Repeating over and over
That this life is better.
That this is what you wanted.

You can convince yourself,
But that’s not substantial.

I want something real.

This cage—
It’s a lie.

Trading my time for gold.
Seems like a bargain!

Are we fools?

We must be to stay locked in cages,
Pacing back and forth trying to find our purpose.

But we have no purpose in our cages!

The only purpose is to break free,

And once we do that,
what do we do?

We fly.

Yeah, I think I’ll take the wings.
