Hearts near through feelings shared,
Voices silent but our minds held our hearts.
For hours and hours we often stared,
Hoping soon that our love would start.
A love so pure and a bond so strong,
We knew it was meant to be.
But our love didn’t last so long,
And someone else took you away from me.
He was one and I was two,
Your heart you had given away.
And though I had loved only you,
It wasn’t enough to hold you that day.
One moved far and one stayed in place,
But my heart always filled with your thought.
Finding each other through the barest trace,
Your heart once again I sought.
Happily married and safe as can be,
My hopes for you all came true.
Your heart was where it always should be,
And mine ached anew for still loving you.
And then you said “I still love you,”
“But my husband will always be one.”
“In my heart you will always be two,”
“Until our lives are over and done.”
The strangest day that was ever known,
Was the day our eyes met and stared.
When through our bond my heart had flown,
And since that time your life I’ve shared.
I’ve carried that love across all time,
Alone in my journey I always knew.
While my heart ached and you filled my mind,
That I would never be one but always two.
