The rain has stopped and the sky is blue as. The sea is smooth and the sun is on full tan effect. Video conference was awesome and I'm enjoying a choice Ceylon tea, camembert, crackers, fruit, Dutch dark rye, ginger bikkies coated in chocky. This after two large fresh ground extra strong coffees during the conference, seems to have washed all my cares away

Fortunately there is a queue outside Gucci. Unfortunately it's only outside Gucci.

Good morning. I'm in a hotel. Boring business stuff. At least I get to go home.

Earl Grey here as well. (Nearly typo'd that as "Early Grey" which, I assume, is Earl Grey with double the caffeine content for when you need to get going early).

'Early Grey' that could be a neat product name.

On second thoughts ... it could be confused with a hair product
Oh my... one of those days when jet lag actually got the better of coffee

Got myself all prepared and ready for my noon video conference with NY... tick ... it is scheduled for noon Wednesday 28th November ... which it was here when I connected with nobody ... but noon Wednesday EST ... sod time zones. Least I haven't missed it How embarrassing would that have been

And it's stopped raining and it's a beautiful day ... oniochalasia coming on

Hey everyone, I'm back on this side after an extended absence due to my forgetting about this side. I take it this is where the cool kids hang out?

Suggest you send this, your thoughts, to every Member via PM because not every Member visits the Forum.

You might be right. How do I send a PM to all SS members?

It would be very cumbersome for you to do. However, we're working on getting a newsletter message ready to go out to all members and will include a pointer to this thread in it.

A newsletter message refering Members here is def the best way by far.

OMG! Do you think peeps think I'm promoting Harney's teas????? Nooooo way .. I think they are the worst teas on the planet...

To be honest, I'd never heard of them until you mentioned them. Must be a UK/European thing. For loose teas here, it's mostly specialty shops like David's and Teavana or else Asian stuff, like Chinese greens and oolongs, sold in Chinese/Asian groceries.

Nooo sweet man... Harney's are a US Company founded around 1983 as a startup company in Millerton NY. I had never heard of them until I saw a selection of their teas in a boutique tea shop in Chelsea (London). Then I came across them on my travels, in Australia and again in New Zealand. In Auckland, Kiwiland's biggest city, there is actually a cafe that promotes their brand above all others. Sadly it always seeems to be empty (Sorry if that sounds mean). It is the Menu tea in Auckland's oldest and poshest store, which is where I tried it for the first and only time. The startup bit intrigued me which is why I got interested. Over 300 tea blends seems an awful lot to bring to the market.

David's I am not familiar with. I know they are listed on NASDAQ, fairly recent listing, but I have never tasted their product or ever seen it on a shelf. Will look out for it though and will taste and tell biggrin NASDAQ info lists them as Canadian out of Montreal. You obviously like them heaps so that's both good and patriotic at once.

Asian stores are passionate about their green teas aren't they? Especially if the shopkeeper is from Taiwan. Awesome greens from there.

I'm not sad to be with my family but would rather stay in Bavaria.

Members are requested to offer their ideas for ways in which Stories Space might induce income streams for the site. No idea is too silly so please share any and all thoughts you may have. As well, offer your pros and cons about ideas others have suggested.

My own thoughts:

Place a "Donate" button on the cover page. It may well not get much, but some is better than none.

SS could charge an annual membership as the mother site does.

Seek financial sponsorship from publishers. Give rights to advertise their services.

SS could issue a challenge to members to provide a theme-based poem or story, which would be compiled and published for sale. Proceeds to go entirely to SS.

Any other ideas or comments?

I think that the ties to the 'mother site' are an obstacle to sponsorship, for obvious reasons. The move away from a 'mother site' may, ultimately, save this site as I am sure that the opportunity for publisher advertising and sponsorship will happen once a suitable distance is demonstrable, or our beloved stories space is sold.

I would be happy to purchase a membership but I would suggest that it would be detrimental to insist on compulsory paid membership. Personally wouldn't be seeking incentives to become a paid Member, but it is highly likely that others would. Just what those incentives might be is prob a discussion in itself. There is a huge opprtunity to grow the Membership here given that visits(views) to the site by non-members outnumber those by Members by more than, on average, 35 to 1.

That stories space should have it's own donation facility/key is a good idea and should be put in place immediately. As you say, anything by way of help is always welcome and major online publishers all seem to seek donations via their sites.

Ping's ideas (expressed elsewhere on the Forum) on regular Competitions are really worth considering as promotional tools; perhaps separate comps for Members and non-members? Non-members prizes could be Memberships. Would suggesting prize money and an opportunity to be published for winning Members be inappropriate? I am certain it is possible by way of sponsorship.

Congrats on the thread. Hope it brings the results you are hoping for.

Feeling sad too. I will be home for Chrissy!
Especially as I will actually have to come home for it!

Awwwwwwwwwww .. that is really sad that that you don't want to be home for Chrissy.
New York is awesome at Chrissy. You should come visit. We can starlight ice skate at the Rockefeller ... they have an Igloo! But not this year

At least I'm out of Paris now and away from the riots and stuff. That makes me soooo angry.

This looks somewhat more interesting.

Way more interesting!

OMG! Do you think peeps think I'm promoting Harney's teas????? Nooooo way .. I think they are the worst teas on the planet... which may be harsh since I have only tried their English Breakfast, which I didn't finish! I might try their Black Russian but only after I have tried their Harlem Brown. Secretly I wonder how they get away with that name in this self righteous pc age. .. fascinating name though.

I have a conspiracy theory about Harney's teas.. should I share?

There is something worse than Harney's Breakfast tea though .... Robert Timms .. roasting coffee for over 60years... and still haven't a clue! I couldn't finish that either... yuck... haven't ever tasted dish water (is that the right name?).. but it seeems a suitable comparison.
Feeling sad I won't be home for Christmas... second year in a row... but somehow I'll get a Chrissy Tree.. somehow ...

STRONG Coffee required... triple shot! [my eyes light up at four .. worse than seeing a 'Sale' sign in a shop window ]

I believe this is the 1980 Space Invaders World Championship Final.

I hate to sound negative but are you sure about that?

Nooo .. that is why I said "believe". I am pretty sure it's an Atari Space Invaders comp though, but waaaaay before I was even dreamt of Do you have any idea what it might be, because it looks interesting? Could it be the 1980-81 National Champs in NY?

I think it is one of those two.

Edit; friend messaged me that it can't be NY... Atari played Nat Champs 1980 in four regional centres.. NY was one, 4000 entrants, but was held in a shopping mall.... background in pic looks like a ballroom in a hotel, or some such ... how do girl gamers know these things? She wasn't born then either

The one on the left... has any one ever tasted chocolate mint tea?????

Yes. Not fond of it. Chocolate doesn't belong in tea of any kind.

The ginger tea next to it intrigues me (though I prefer lemon-ginger to straight ginger).

Awesome... and I agree, no chocolate in tea unless it's because your chockie bikkie flopped in.... an occupational hazard when tasting a new brand. All chockie bikkies should come with a recommended dunk time on the packet. Could call it a 'Mississippi Rating'... one Mississippi, two Mississippi and such

Do you have a fav chocolate biscuit? Mine would be McVities Digestive... the dark chockie in pref to the milk. They even have them in France! Neat packaging I can supply a 'Mississippi Rating' for both.

Unlike the French to make a culinary faux pas. They are from Scotland, not England!

From the movie, Legend, right? Or something like that? God, I love Ferry's voice.

I've got a thread on my other board celebrating Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. He turns 80 today and is doing a charity gig in his hometown, Orillia, Ontario, to celebrate.

Yes, Legend. He is a superb artist, I agree. I am listening to 'Boys and Girls' right now on a disc which is rotating at 33&1/3 RPM.

I also like Gordon Lightfoot. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is a fantastic song.

OMG you two! Just spent a week discovering Carole King now you give me this Lightfoot guy? He must be country singer if he sings about wrecks.

Nah, not country. He’s a fantastic Canadian singer in the storyteller style, kind of like Harry Chapin and Jim Croce, but better. You should look them up too, though.

He's Canadian? Ok will start there.. Google maps will fing Canada for me.. I hope!

I've heard of Harry Chapin (I live in West Village) but have never heard his music that I can recall. Jim Croce? I'll find him.
