Good advice, Diana. Welcome to the critique groups!
I'm not sure what it's called in other countries but I like raisin toast with butter, or when it comes to savoury I enjoy toasted cheese sandwiches and like to dunk them in tomato soup. Vegemite toast is good, too!

I have a few suggestions that you might be interested in-I know what you’re thinking, new guy wants changes. That’s not it at all. These are just a few things I think would be interesting.

Sub-categories on the submission page. I enjoy Flash Fiction, but don’t like Romance (please don’t anyone be offended, it just a personal choice) I know you can use tags but sub-categories might make it easier.

Authors note. Completely optional of course. I personally enjoy finding out how a person got their idea or inspiration for a story.

Weekly writing prompts. Maybe make it a category, or a contest. I would love to see how different writers make use of the same prompt, horror ,romance humor, ect. It would be really interesting.
There's another site I check out once a week just for the interesting prompts, it might be a way to get new members.

These are just some thing I'd enjoy seeing

Sorry, Don, I missed this post. Thank you for the suggestions. The sub-categories one would be difficult to organise with the way our home page is currently set out, but I like the writing prompts idea. That's definitely worth looking into.
Thank you for offering your services, Andrew. That's kind of you. smile
Thank you for posting this, Maggie. This is explained well and I'm sure it will be helpful to a lot of writers.

Hey everyone. I’m new to this site. I joined a few weeks ago and have 2 stories posted. Writing is really hard for me. I have a lot of ideas but "grammar “kills me. I'll fret over a sentence or two, just to make sure it sounds right, then I'll lose the idea I was working on. I'm not trying to get rich doing this. I just love doing it. This seemed like the place where people could give me their opinion, positive or negative. I've never shown my work to anyone I know, they don’t even know I write...Don

Welcome to SS, Don!

I've experienced the same problem as you in the past with regards to spending too much time on getting sentences just right before I move on. It's only recently that I've finally managed to make myself keep typing rather than checking back on what I've just written. It can really hold you back!

I hope you get a lot out of sharing your work here. smile
Our latest contest has just been launched with the theme Darkness and Light. Entries are welcome for all of the categories and you're free to submit as many entries as you like. Other than a maximum limit of 10,000 words there are no other restrictions or special requirements for this particular theme.

Further details can be found here.

Good luck, everyone!
Good question! I think it's really important that you enjoy your own writing. It's especially nice if something catches your attention because you know it's probably doing the same thing for your readers.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Callisto. Gav has checked this out and it appears to have only been a problem with links that included storiesspace in them. He's fixed this now so it should all be working okay.
I'm another letter writer. I have family in England and write to them often. I enjoy keeping in touch the old-fashioned way.

I'm another left-hander, too!

So sorry about that, Lisa. Would it be possible for Gav to program it so that instead of reporting the comment right away, a confirmation notice pops up, allowing to cancel or continue?

Or maybe this isn't something that happens often except to me?

I don't get many of those messages, but when I do it's no problem from my end, so no need to apologise! I'll send Gav the link to this thread to see if there's something that can done.
Hi Callisto,

With Stories Space being for ages sixteen and over we've blocked the ability to link to some adult sites on profiles, so if it's an over eighteen site you're linking to it won't show up.

Hope that helps! smile
If there's enough interest in a new forum dedicated to food/drink or recipes, I'm happy to add one. There's a thread somewhere but they tend to get a bit lost among the other threads. A forum would be a nice idea.
