Oh, I missed you Tommy.

Aka I been hanging out (read: listening to) with Jon a lot but now I'm back in Tommy's arms where I belong.

Quote by verbal

Elyse, Jon Bon Jovi is no Tom Petty.

Hmhm. My boyfriend says the same thing to me but we're even cause I don't get his love for Bruce Springsteen. Tommy is still my number one though - don't worry.

Quote by Mendalla

Guess you're just ... 😎... Living on a Prayer.

Jon must now feel like he's ... 😎... Wanted Dead or Alive

I could continue but will stop before the tomatoes start flying. 😊

I do like Bon Jovi, even if they kind of peaked right at the start with Slippery When Wet. That was a dang hard album to follow up.

Livin' on a prayer while learning to fly. 😏

I never liked guys with long hair till Tommy 'n Jon.

Quote by Mendalla

Okay, who is it this time? Petty will be getting jealous. πŸ˜‰

No, he won't cause I'm keeping Tommy...but...Jon Bon Jovi.

Couldn't tell you why - just that my heart likes him.

Me: I'm not going to fall for any more classic rockers, I swear.

Also me: ...oh...oh no. What have I done?

Working on something for the other side - something I've never tried to write before, too. I hope I can do it justice.

Liking Tom Petty is something to be supported for sure. I met someone who didn't like Petty and told them, "Don't come around here no more." πŸ˜‰πŸ€£

That's not wrong. I think I would've told them not to do me like that, but that's just me. 😏

Quote by Mendalla

Never know about those guys who slide into your DMs, eh. Sound like you got one of the good ones, though. We didn't have DMs to slide into in my day. πŸ˜‰

I did get one of the good ones. He's wonderful and supportive and doesn't mind that I can get kinda clingy. Plus...he supports my love for Tommy in ways nobody else does so...yeah.

Thanks, y'all.

Funny thing is, he spent about ten days sliding into my DM's before I was ready to say anything to him...and now we're two months strong and still going.

Hey Elyse! I didn’t know you had a boyfriend! Make sure he treats you right.

It's a recent development but so far so good. He and I met cause we were both members of the same Tom Petty group on FB. He's older than me - like, a lot older - but we click and that's what matters. He's down in SoCal (I'm in NorCal) but that's okay.

I'm staying over at my parents' again tonight per my boyfriend's previous suggestion so I won't be by myself while I wait for him to feel up to talking.

I'm staying over at my parents' tonight per my boyfriend's suggestion so I won't be by myself when he goes for surgery tomorrow.

I had the weirdest dream last night.

It was a gardener AU where my boyfriend was doing work at my parents' house and at one point I yelled out the sliding door that he forgot something in the house (his phone, I think).

Quote by Mendalla

Oo, that might almost be cooler. We do have a "Songs" category, eh. Just sayin'. πŸ˜‰

...well, we met because of Tom Petty so you're not wrong there.

Quote by verbal

Congrats Elyse. Tell him hi from us. Does he write?

Yes, but not stories. He writes songs - he was a guitar player in a few cover bands (one of which was named for a lyric from a Bruce Springsteen song).

Quote by Mendalla

Cool. Congratulations, I guess. Hope this keeps up.

I think it will. We're good together 'n we love each other.

Tomorrow I'll have been with my boyfriend for one month...but it really feels like he and I have known each other for much longer than that (years, maybe).

Quote by Mendalla

I can totally see that happening. A couple members on the fansite I'm on for Dutch singer Floor Jansen have a thing going. Well, as much of a thing as possible when one is in the US and the other is in Finland.😊

I guess I'm luckier'n them cause my person and I live in the same state - they're in SoCal and I'm in NorCal - but we text and talk on the phone 'n video chat as much as we can.

Tommy makes an amazing wingman, y'all. I met someone through one of the Tommy groups I'm in on fb and we've been a thing for a few weeks now.

I was Tuesday years old when I realized I've been mishearin' part of Hometown Blues (my most favorite Tommy song ever) this whole time.

What Tommy says: Gotta do a number on the late night show.

What I keep hearin': Gotta do a number on a late lasso.

Quote by Mendalla

One thing it does point up is what an f-ing brilliant songwriter he was. I expect we'll be hearing his songs for the rest of eternity.

God, I hope so. It's like - I can and do listen to other artists, but at the end of the day, nothin' and nobody sounds better to me than my Tommy.

By the way, if anyone has SiriusXM, there's an entire channel devoted to Tommy called Tom Petty Radio. It has him's songs and repeats of this radio show him did called Buried Treasure.

Paging JustAnotherSapphic. If you're at all into country, this might be of interest. It was recommended as a "road trip disc" by, of all places, Scientific American. Well, the editor of their daily newsletter anyhow.

And I see Mike Campbell of The Heartbreakers guests on one track, so I guess this is official. Personally, I am intrigued by Rhiannon Giddens doing "Don't come around here no more". Her folk-bluegrass sound could do interesting things with that song, I think.

I'm not at all into country. Tommy is kind of my exception though 'n while I did hear of the album, I'm gonna pass cause I feel like nobody could sing those songs the way Tommy could.

Quote by Mendalla

Saying anything negative about Tom would just be...😎...petty. 🀣

Hearin' anything bad bout him is a real heartbreaker.

I - I love him so much I could cry.

Quote by verbal
Tom Petty seems to be pretty universally beloved.

As him should be. Him's pretty much my favorite person at this point.

Quote by Mendalla

Tom Petty is just a terrible musician and ...πŸ˜•... oh, who am I kidding, I love a lot of his music.

Very funny. I know you're kidding so it's okay but if somebody were to insult him in a mean way (like the person elsewhere who described him as the Applebees of music) I'd really be upset.

I - I very much doubt y'all know exactly how much I love Tommy.

Quote by verbal

Ringo, Elyse? The least unattractive Beatle, in my world-weary eyes. What about John? In a related note, I have a strong memory of my Mom and my sister talking about Paul McCartney, and how he was almost too pretty. Note the β€œalmost.” They both loved him.

Yes, Ringo. Him was my first love at the age of 5 (fell in love while watchin' him as Mr. Conductor 'n never looked back) but I like them all in varied degrees.

Quote by WriterGirl

I know I’m alone when I say I don’t find any Beatle appealing. Or their music. (please don’t throw things at me)

Nah, you're good. Now, if somebody insulted Tom Petty, that would be a problem cause I - I'm kind of a one-person protection squad where him's concerned.
