I like this clean, stripped-down look so much that I've been toying with the software I use for the site I run to see how much I can strip it down. It is not easy, though. SS had the benefit of moving to new software rather than trying to rework what was already there.

It's our own software we wrote it from scratch so essentially we can change it however we want down the line smile . So if people come up with great features we can build them in.

A small glitch I am seeing that I though I should post in case others have it. I have a red 1 on my bell that absolutely refuses to go away even though I have cleared all my notifications. Not sure what's up with that. Usually, a refresh gets rid of "stuck" numbers there but this one is visible on both desktop and phone and won't go away.

I’m seeing that too.

It's a bug, we are hoping that an update today will fix this, it's driving me nuts as well.

The forum watch thing seems fixed which is awesome.

The notification bell only allows me to clear notifications 10 at a time currently. I was starting close to 200 notifications from all the forum stuff from before that got fixed so it's gonna take some time to clear all.

There's also an automated message I've gotten from friends on here. I'm only bringing it up because I've gotten it twice. Not sure how it got sent, but it's the following:

Subject: I'd like to know more...
Body: Oh hey there!
I've been checking out your profile and I like what I've seen, why don't you take a look at mine to see if we click?
Hope to hear from you soon. 😉

I know I'm a hot ticket item and all, but I get the feeling this is a holdover from a dating site lol.

Edit: Sometimes clicking on 'Clear All' and the individual 'X's doesn't do anything. Not sure why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

We are removing this in the next update

I don't feel the site feels secure. I can't hide my age.

I checked some profiles including yours and could not see birthdate. It only appears for the owner of the profile, it seems, not anyone else.

Yes it's totally private, if you look at you own profile it's automatically in "edit mode"  but you can turn that on and off on the top right of the profile screen to see what others see.  But to avoid confusion  we are just putting some text with it to say it is not visible to other members.

Other edit: Apparently there is more than black, (and each gender option has its own color associated including puke-yellow for non-binary?) The part in parenthesis is wrong, that's just on certain mobile devices... and the non man, woman, cis ones are black or puke yellow. Doesn't negate what I said above and in other posts. Color and gender really shouldn't be so intertwined. Leaving all the choices to the users is the best option, in my opinion.

The vast majority of users want an easy way to see if they are speaking to a man or a woman etc. I can't tell you just how many complaints we get from people saying they are only interested in being contacted by women, or men etc, this is a simple way before them wasting a click on a profile to know if it's a man or a woman. So for any kind of filters or searches to work for this majority of people we need to establish sex. Also we have had issues in the past with people believing they have been chatting to (or meeting people) of a certain sex that have been disingenuous with their online profiles. Pick your own colour would not work unless it was accepted by all genderless people and users across the site otherwise they would not know what it was for. Personally I don't care if people want to identify as an Alien, Toaster, or a Werewolf, as long as they are happy. But right now we don't have anything on the site that will allow one Toaster to search for another. Im not saying that in the future we won't incorporate a special feature set for those who identify as Toasters or Werewolf's etc to find each other, but until then it's a case of using the options available.  There are already so many options on here for sex and gender that "99.9%" of people will be able to express themselves with no problem at all. And for everything else I would suggest personalising your profile and profile text.

We appreciate what you are saying, we will take your comments into consideration when we start looking at feature requests after we get all of the mission critical work and any launch bugs rectified.

Probably also ask the members to complete some kind of survey and provide comments a few months after relaunch.

Kindest regards

Sorry, I put this in another thread too. Are we going to have to use the Google authenticator every time we log on? It is having me use it each time I log on.  I thought I was missing stories but found them. I had a few hidden, but that doesn't seem to be an option at the moment. Since our photos are still public I'd like to remove them but haven't figured out how yet. It's probably obvious but I am still finding my way around. I am getting notifications now.

Hi

As a mod you will need to two factor every time you log in, we are looking at having it done just once every three months though. It's to do with potential hacking and data protection issues that could be caused by mods/admin having shared passwords that end up on the dark web if other sites they use get hacked. I know it's a bit of a pain but ultimately it safeguards your account and protects the site from hacking.

Your photos are NOT public, except for 14 cartoon type avatars you have in a public album. The rest are all still in private albums as they should be.

Avatars should auto approve, but it's only working for mods or admin as it is a bug. We should have it resolved on Monday, but a mod will need to approve them in the meantime.

Magnificentrascal they are in the admin area, click top right on your avatar pic, scroll down to admin and they should be in there?. I don't have an admin account to do it I'm afraid and the office is closed now to make me one sad

Found another thing that irks me.    No longer getting stories in my inbox here of authors that I follow. ... 😠

Likely a feature that didn't get implemented. Hopefully you posting it here will get it on the list. I second the request, though I don't use follow much myself here.

Please remember the site was scheduled to be turned off and lost forever next month. A great deal of time and money has gone into saving it, a whole team of developers have been working on it for four months now. It's a completely free site to use, has plenty of new features but maybe missing some of the bits you might have liked. To save the site we have undertaken "mission critical" development for the must have features. Any of these other little bits can be added to a wish list that we will review and score in order of development priority in due course.

Also, your quoting system needs work. I had a hell of a time editing out parts of your post that I didn't want to include in my quote. And it should only include the new content in a post in the quote, not any previous content they have quoted. No other forum software I have used other than old StoriesSpace included quotes in quoted content.

We copied the old functionality for ease of use, you see this is the problem if we had changed it people might not like it. And if we keep it the same people wan't it changed? It's unfortunately a no win situation. Like all this stuff it's a new site so give it a bit of time and if you don't like it let us know and we can stick it on the wish list and discuss it in the office.

I think there is some confusion about private albums showing publicly, I have checked around and they all seem to be private.

No, the problem is that all pictures were put into Public in the conversion, even ones that people had hidden on the old site. So pictures that people did not mean to be public, became public. And the only way to fix it is to move them one at a time since there doesn't seem to be a way to move pictures between albums in bulk.
I don't think that is the case, I have just looked at around 20 profiles and most of them have private albums that I can't access. You will be able to see all of your own private pictures publicly but that is because it is your account so it could be that. But if any users think they have a fault we can check the settings from the database that we imported to double check there is not a bug affecting selective accounts.

For the sake of privacy, should it be shut to members until it's fully ready?

There is a really wide range of privacy settings on here, you can find them by clicking on your icon top right and selecting privacy settings, alternatively you can find support guides in the support centre.

There are a lot of help guides in the support section here.

Yes it’s a totally new site, it will take some getting used to. Sure we can help on that front.

There is only one version?. It’s exactly the same site but mobile friendly.

Hi, it will take you a little while to find out where everything is, but if we don’t have the features you are looking for we can put them on a wish list and build them, but you will also find a lot of new features when you start looking around. It’s inevitable that there will be a few bugs as it’s been an extremely complicated task to get to this point. Someone technical will pick the comments up on here and reply as soon as practical with an update.

Thanks 🙏
