It’s Not What It Looks Like Competition

Every one of us has experienced a moment in our life where things were not always what they seemed. Maybe it was a series of coincidences or just really bad timing.

Have you ever walked in on something and instantly thought the worst only to have it not be that all? Maybe you assumed it was something amazing, only to realize it was something terrible instead. Or maybe, it was exactly what it looked like, no matter how hard you tried to deny it.

What does the title of the competition bring to your mind? Is it horror, love, humor, or a mix of everything?

The banner says $150 and your post and the comp page say $100. Or is that a joke about the comp theme?😁

This is a terrific theme. My brain is stewing over it already.

And it's timely. I need some focus for my writing. I am way overdue for a new story here and maybe this will get my head into a space where I can get one out.

As much as I would like to take credit for that being on purpose, I just forgot to change the amount. A missed opportunity there.

Fun! I’m in! I’m kinda famous for misreading things!

Thanks, Molly! ❤️

I needed a focus for my writing too!

Looks like I’ll be first in! smile

I submitted mine. Had a small window to get one in because May is crazy busy for me.

I look forward to reading the other entries. :)

I'm glad you found inspiration and wrote a story, WriterGirl. I'm looking forward to reading it. 😊

I hope all other writers who are entering the comp are finding inspiration and in the process of writing stories. I look forward to reading your stories. ❤️

YAY !! Another comp! I was wondering when there would be another one.

Wonder no more!! Spend that wondering time writing!!

😊

And while I am committed to this comp, I am finding this a real uphill battle. I thought writing for a comp would help me focus things and get my writing back on track but, dang it, I'm still having trouble getting past the first few hundred words. Basically I start a story but can't get past the opening. Latest attempt is past 1000 words, though, so maybe I have this licked now.

Start in the middle, with a good scene, one you know will be good, then work your way back.

O, I've done that one, too. Sadly, my writing mojo has not been great of late. Just look at how long it has been since I've posted a story here (Nov. 2023). And I think I only managed one elsewhere in that time. It's not that I have not been writing, just that I keep losing momentum.

That usually happens to me when I’m trying to fit writing into a busy time in my life. Too many things on your mind will stifle creative flow. Maybe change scenery. Take laptop to a park.

Yay! I'm far from out of it yet. Kat has something in the works. Who else is leaping into the fray!?

I've started my third attempt. Binned the first two and am going back to an idea I used somewhere (you know where) else. It's a late start so we will see if I get it done. Nowadays, I only seem to be doing competitions or micros; my toddler would like to make it clear it isn't his fault. And anyway, momma knows what to do, just supply more ice cream.

LOL, I did basically no writing for a spell between when my son was born and when I joined here. Dabbled in idle moments and created stories in my head, but nothing serious. Nice to see you, Annie. Hope you and the little one are doing well.

I am going to be in soon. Finally got a story that I like. Needs a bit more editing, especially the ending which I just put on, but looking good. And, brace yourselves, it's going in either Drama or Realistic Fiction. Seriously. No spooks or sorcerors.😉

So how are others coming with ~2 weeks to go (really less than that)?

Losl all writing energy. Yet story is complete and locked in my head. So little time left.

Give it a shot. I'll bet you can do it!! 😀

I need a title for mine. Don't like the working title. Otherwise, I think it is close. There's one paragraph I might ditch. It kind of sits there and doesn't add much.

Put mine on simmer. Will review again on the weekend and then probably submit. It's all queued up with a cover image uploaded, in fact, just haven't hit Publish yet. Want at least one more shot at it.
