Have a story about internet culture? eFiction Magazine now pays royalties...or at least they are for this upcoming issue, I'm on their mailing list because I got a story in their August, 2011 issue...anyway, this is what they sent out...

Hey!

Hope this email receives you well. I want to pass along an opportunity the magazine is running for April. In April, we're publishing an internet culture issue. We're looking for fiction that revolves around internet culture. Memes, internet jokes, tropes of the interwebs are all fair game. I know this is something of a specialty of yours, and you were the first writer I thought of with this project in mind.

The requirements for the piece would be:

Genre: Open
Maturity level: Any
Length: 0 - 10k
Compensation: One year royalty split equally between all contributors and the magazine. If we run 9 stories, all profits will be split 10 ways equally. After one year, all profits will go to the magazine. No other magazine that I've heard of does payment like this and I think it will make the project worthwhile for all involved.

Your story will be edited by my staff and I will give final OK. You will be able to participate in editorial process if you want.

I'm looking for a dedicated group of writers, who I will be managing and guiding to make this issue a project in and of itself. We will be promoting and selling it and working hard all year to generate money for the contributors and to grow the magazine.

Send in work here:

If you don't plan on submitting but still want to support the project, please be sure to share this post with your writerly friends. You can forward this email or share it to your networks by clicking the "View in Browser" link.

I am happy to answer any and all questions.

All the best,

Doug

It's a rather nice looking e-Zine btw...and recognized by Poets & Writers as a legitimate "edited journal"...

to me
Alan,

Thank you for sending us "Hearts Beat As One". We love it and would like to publish it in the April issue of eFiction. Congratulations!

Please reply with any comments or questions you may have about the publishing process.

Sincerely,

Just going to "Bump" this one here...I had mentioned to a couple of people here that eFiction has an upcoming humor issue, but they have other stuff upcoming as well...they take previously published work, and as mentioned...they are a royalty paying publication now...

Themes

We alternate themed issues with open genre issues. If you don't see your genre, you can submit anyway and your work could be featured in an open theme issue. Or petition the editorial staff to get your genre/theme its own issue.

Btw, I'd like to note that eFiction is now a top rated journal over on Amazon...they are currently at number five at the time of this posting...no mean feat I might add, considering the number of mags out there these days...

Got this message from eFiction recently...re. new genre mags...

I have some very exciting news to share with you. eFiction is growing so quickly that we’ve decided to start new magazines for each of the major fiction genres. eFiction Romance, eFiction Noir, eFiction Fantasy, and eFiction Tomorrow are the magazines I will be focusing on first, but there will also be other genres: horror, steampunk, western, action/adventure, paranormal, or others. eFiction magazine will still deliver the best themed shorts we can find, but it will return to its roots of being a shade more contemporary.
As you know, eFiction is produced via her community. Each month, we band together and produce one of the genre-fiction world’s premier fiction outlets. With new magazines coming out, you’ll be able to focus more on the genre you truly love and enjoy reading most. To that end, please let me know if you’d like to contribute more to the production of any of these new magazines or if you have a genre idea you’d like to see made.

For anyone who wants to step up and start on for a volunteer editorial role for one of these new magazines,

Please Visit This Link

That explains what the position entails. There is much money to be made and fun times to be had. So if you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at running a magazine, check out the link and contact me with your information.

These magazines will start popping up in the next few months. Look out for special discounts and free copies when they do.

That’s all for now. Who’s excited for these new mags? Which genre are you looking forward to most?

Your editor,

Doug

Btw, that link explains more about eFiction Magazine in general for all interested...

Just got this...

You and I are changing the world
Our mission is to be a plot point in the story of our world. This summer, we are taking another leap forward toward accomplishing that mission. eFiction has grown up since its metaphorical birth two and a half years ago. Thanks to the amazing work of all the hundreds of incredible writers who spun the yarns we love. And thanks to the many thousands of readers and subscribers who make this project possible. Because of them, eFiction is having a baby--well, not one--quintuplets. New genre-focused magazines have been born, and they are growing up right before our eyes. Their caretakers, the managing editors, are raising them as you read this. They will be pushing them out of the nest, and into the world in the next few months. The new genre magazines are eFiction Romance, eFiction Scifi, eFiction Noir, eFiction Horror, and eFiction Fantasy.

No other magazine has ever attempted to create a specific publication for each major genre. Because of the incredible support of subscribers and readers, eFiction will be able to do it first. We will change the entire marketplace forever when these magazines launch. To make sure these magazines launch into the world in the best way possible, we are offering a special deal to fans of eFiction. The lifetime subscription option in our store will entitle you to every future issue of all six eFiction publications, plus you gain access to the archives of all back issues. You will be a patron of the magazine. You'll be partly responsible for shaking up the status quo. Become a part of the eFiction movement. Let's change the world together.
