Writing Contests AuthorStand...

Not sure what else AuthorStand has to offer...but, it might be worth checking out the site...maybe someone here can give us the full report...

OK, trying to figure out what this site is...and how to enter the contests...here is what it says...

"Linking Authors & Readers Like Never Before
Helping you grow as an author & build a following of readers!

Every day, exciting, poignant and possibly world-changing works of literature and non-fiction are written. Unfortunately, most are never seen by the public... until now. AuthorStand allows any author to make ebooks available directly to readers, then lets all of us decide, as a community of readers, which are quality works. List your works and help pioneer the new way to launch a writing career!"

OK...here's what it says about the contests...

"Here's how the writing contest works...

There is no fee to enter the contests, you simply need to sign up for a Free AuthorStand account, then list the work you'd like to enter on AuthorStand.com. AuthorStand writing contests are judged, in part, by AuthorStand member readers, so during the time that the writing contest is being judged the work must be listed on AuthorStand.com with a price of $0.00. Once the judging is over you may change the sale price to whatever amount you wish."

So...from what I gather, once you submit a story, it gets set up as an e-book...I think that's the way I understand it...

Just a note...this is one of those contests that is sort of perpetual...they do this like every three months or something...you can "like" them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter to see when they start again...

I just sent in "The Birthday Party" for their very short story contest, 1500 word limit...let's see if I can get lucky twice...

Do they accept all genres of stories?

I believe so...check it out...

And they have two contests going on now...one for very short stories, under 1500 words...and one for longer short stories over 1500...

So, there are two $250 first prizes to be had...

Looks like I have several stories over the 1500-word mark I can enter, and a few that's under 1500. Looks like they didn't specify which genres they're accepting so it's all systems go for me

Hey Sharon...you know when you enter this contest, your story is converted to a PDF e-book...

Here is the link to my contest entry...

They did it all for me...I just e-mailed the story...something to consider if you want to self-publish an e-book...in fact, I believe you can just leave it on Author Stand and set a price after the contest...

I think that's how it works...maybe I'll give it a shot and see if anyone will buy it...

Lol...won't get my hopes up on that one though...

I guess I'm a member of AuthorStand...anyway, this might be of interest to some here...don't know if anyone here ever joined...just got this e-mail, and I put the link to the new site at the end...

to me
Hello AuthorStand Members!
My name is Joe Niewierski and I am the Founder of AuthorStand.com. Some time ago the folks at Book Country contacted me because they were impressed with the community we’ve put together on AuthorStand and wanted to work together somehow. After getting to know them and realizing how much Book Country’s vision matches that of mine here at AuthorStand, I decided that the best way we could work together is if I personally joined Book Country and invited each of you to come with me.

First and most important to me is that you understand how much I appreciate the work you’ve put in to make AuthorStand the amazing and positive community that it is. I wouldn’t recommend that you join Book Country if I didn’t think it was an amazing opportunity for each and every one of us.

AuthorStand is a place where authors can meet authors and help each other toward the goal of becoming published. Book Country does the same thing, and is led by Penguin employees in New York City. This means a better connection to the literary industry, state of the art technology built into the site and a larger platform to connect more authors to each other.

Hopefully you will all decide to make the switch and join the community at Book Country. The Book Country team understands that it is each and every one of you who have truly made AuthorStand great and they want you to be a part of what they are building. I’ve already joined and look forward to continuing our conversations at Book Country.

So now it’s time to say hello. Hello to Book Country. Hello to its thousands of author members. And hello to the expanded opportunities that it offers.

I am here to answer any questions you may have and soon I’ll introduce you to some of the great folks from Book Country and they’ll be able to help you as well. You can create your Book Country membership here.

With the utmost gratitude,
Joe Niewierski
AuthorStand Founder
