What goal are you working towards with regards to writing?

Do you have a long-term plan? Are you focused on becoming published or writing for the fun of it?
i'm writing for fun. i don't really have long term plans for anything just yet! lol.
At the moment I'm just trying to keep improving and learning as much as I can. I haven't thought too much about where I'd like to go with my writing.
I would really love to be published. I can't imagine how that would feel!

I want to be published too...in print. I've had one story published as an e-book and that was exciting enough. I'd love to know what it feels like to hold a paperback book in my hands with my name on it.
i am honestly not interested in being published. my goal is to write something that i am proud of, not just something that i think is good, but something that pushes beyond what i think myself capable of, a story with no mis-steps, no imperfections, each word perfectly placed. i want to to be something that moves both me and anyone who reads it. i think that i am slowly reaching towards that place, and that with each story i write, i come a little closer.
I'd like to write a book or two. Nothing too fancy or full of itself within the chick lit, romance or crime genres. I'd like to be able to give up work and just write. Something I could dedicate to my mom.

I started writing for fun about a year and a half ago...now that I have well over 100 stories, plays and poems...yes, I've been busy...I'm just starting to think about actually getting something in print.
I do have a story coming out in an "online magazine" next month, I guess that's something...they only publish three stories a month, but like Lisa said, it would be nice to see something in actual print.
There are various "submission calls" listed on the net. People do get their stuff in print, but it is often a lot of work...editors can be very picky regarding word-count, format, theme, etc...and if you make the slightest error...single space when they want double, for instance, they will reject your work.
I was talking to a local published mystery writer, Jeff Markowitz, who lives in my town last week. He was telling me his publisher has very specific requirements for the "subject" line in e-mails...and if he does not follow the requirement, his publisher will not open his e-mails...
It's just a matter of wanting to see that you can follow directions...we decided...good luck to all here, whatever your goals...
Cheers,
Alan.

To be honest I hardly consider myself an author I do a bit of poetry for fun but I would like to actually write a real story at one point but doubt I would ever be good enough for print. This is just for fun for me.
I don't have an ultimate goal as a writer. My goal in life is pretty much to make it until tomorrow. Right now my goal is to finish a story and maybe start a novel. After I actually start a novel my ultimate goal will be to finish it.

I just signed my very first contract a few days ago for a story that's going to be published in e-book format in December, and will possibly go to print depending on how it does. Even though it's a small accomplishment, the process of submitting and getting accepted has been exciting for me!

The book is an anthology and had a 'call to submission' but the editor liked some stories I already had posted on another site and wrote to me asking me to consider submitting something. That, in itself, was very flattering.

I'd love for it to be a stepping stone to hopefully publishing more pieces in the future. The confidence I've gained from posting online and getting instant feedback and critique has been immeasurable.

Even if I never get to publish anything else, I'll always write for my own pleasure and enjoyment. But yeah, I'd be lying if I didn't say that a beach house with bleached wood floors, my laptop, an almost finished manuscript and a glass of bordeaux isn't one of my all time favourite writer fantasies...
Congratulations Ashleigh. That is so fantastic.

I would like to have a book published. So far, I had a poem published and I think I can do it with a full-length book.

Wait, in my vision, you're living in the beach house next to mine. We go jogging on the beach every morning at 6am by the way. We also have matching Apple laptop computers and are collaborating on a sequel to our New York Times Bestseller...

*giggle* in MY vision, you keep calling the cops and complaining about the noise from all the wild parties and one night i get really drunk and spray paint nasty comments on on your front door and you have me arrested. really, after all the nice things i've said about you, too! that does it, i'm moving to the suburbs! ;)
I read so0oo much that I’ve been told that I should write. Unfortunately I don’t think that I’m good enough writer. I do write for myself though and for fun. When I make it as a brilliant writer, I would love to be publish, but for now that’s just a dream. I’m happy to practice writing ☺
My ultimate writing goal, is to be SELFISH!!!!!!

A poem by HoneyBee000

The Selfish writer. 2010.

I want the best paper.
I want the right sort of pen.
I want the right atmostphere to write about.
I want the old fashioned music and I want the soul train classics...
That get my mind into the right kind of grove.
I want the right man to inspire my romantic side.
I want my daughter's to inspire my humour.
I want alcohol to loosen my contrictive thoughts.
I want a cosy chair...
next to a warm radiator.

I don't want the latest gadget.
I don't want a new car.
I don't want the highest paid job.
I don't want designer clothes...
or a designer house.

NO!

All I want is my lover, my husband, my man, my male best friend and my...
The right pen and the best paper.

The End.

This poem was written on the hoof as they say. I haven't wrote a poem for a while. I like it when writing poetry just flows because of gut feelings.
Hey Bee, your words are as sweet as honey...

I understand about you not wanting a designer house...but, a designer hive maybe?
And as far as designer clothes...a designer bee outfit might not bee so bad, eh???

I'd love to hear my songs on the radio. I'd really love to have them make enough money that I can pursue other projects without really having to worry about money. Other than that, I just write to tell a story, and maybe say something I can't find a way to explain any other way.
It is to create a piece that the readers would appreciate and love. That my work will reach a lot of people around the globe, and that they will get inspired. But before that happens, I need to develop and grow as a writer.

I suppose that if I had the chance to get published, I would be pretty hyped about it. But, I am not really working towards that goal. I started writing in order to pass information, not to entertain. It has been a tough journey to get from one stage to the next, and I have not yet found my style. So I think I want to discover what I do best, then become happy doing that. If I can accomplish that in this lifetime it will be a miracle. And if I don't, then at least I'll have worked my butt off trying to get there.

My goal has become quite simple - I want a career as a writer.

That's not just about being able to make it financially viable enough to be my full time job, it's also about developing my craft to the best of my ability, participating in the wider writing scene and everything else a career entails.

So far I've had a couple of short stories published. In the short term my goals are to self publish a collected anthology for my website and try to get more of my shorts published. In the longer term I want to find an agent and publish novels.

I write for the fun of it, have no real ultimate goal. I only set myself short term goals. Like the three stories I'm working on just now, my goal for them is to be a series and I've already got the first two parts written. I also want to make them as stupid and unbelievable as possible to see how far I can push the boundaries. I think my real ultimate goal is just to enjoy the writing and if someone derives pleasure from that, then it's a happy side effect.
