Simple, really: Just state your word of the day. Pick a word, any word, obscure or not. Modern or archaic. Just remember to explain why it's the word of the day, and what it means.

I love this thread, I love words, so it would really be great if the above, orignal rule could be adhered to and not forgotten, overlooked, neglected etc.

Please!!!!
Please would be a great word of the day. Some people overuse it, like we tend to in Britain, some don't use it enough, but it's amazing that one wee word can change everything. It's nice to be nice, and that is why it is my word of the day. And here is a link to its meaning:

Umm... Survival again, but I'll explain this time, I suppose, since that's part of the rules.

Without sounding like I'm whining and complaining: I work again later today which means more screaming kids and grumpy adults and intimidating managers, coming home with a headache from hell and in no way making enough money every two weeks to make up for all this shit. It is 2:30 am and I still have not been on with you-all-know-who and I have GOT to get up earlier later... earlier than I did yesterday (1:51 in the afternoon, woke up from a horrible nightmare). Aaaaand I feel like utter shit, because of... reasons. If you're REALLY that curious, read my latest poem Tired of Goodbye when it pops up on the front page.

So...

Word of the Day: Survival.

Hope

Though it is in no way a complex word, it is one you can never have too much of.
You can't get there from here, because when you get there you're still here and here is now there.
hitherto - /hɪðəˈtuː,ˈhɪðətuː/
adverb
1. until now or until the point in time under discussion.

The simple reason is because I like it. I first read it in an Edgar Allan Poe story, and fell in love with the word. It sounds more complicated than it actually is.

Forthwith... not sure why but like the sound.

It sure would be nice if people would stick to the rules. Always remember to read the first post, so you know the rules of the thread.

Damn, now I have to think of a word.

Alcohol:

In chemistry, an alcohol is any organic compound in which the hydroxyl functional group is bound to a saturated carbon atom. The term alcohol originally referred to the primary alcohol ethyl alcohol, the predominant alcohol in alcoholic beverages

Word of the day because I like alcohol, it's nearly the weekend, and I fancy myself some wine. Also, I've been working on ideas for cocktails, so I've got alcohol on the brain. Not literally, because that would make me drunk, but it's certainly in my mind.

Hi, no, this is not a word game. It isn't in the games folder, for one thing, and for another, the original post states the intent quite clearly:

It isn't at all complicated. We are writers here, and words are our stock in trade.

Therefore, this thread is anything but a word game. It is an uncomplicated and pleasurable place where we can extend and stretch our vocabulary, and share our love of words with others.

My word of the day is trepidation:

noun
1.
tremulous fear, alarm, or agitation; perturbation.
2.
trembling or quivering movement; tremor.

My WotD because phonetically, it ties in quite nicely to its meaning.
Yeasayer (Noun)

A person that is always positive and or agrees with everything. Some what submissive individual.

We have all have know someone like this whether professionally or personally. Usually someone that will claim to back you up, but then back down when faced with a higher authority.
