Hayley I always read the whole posting so I know about the riot. But you go right ahead.

Cynthia it is bright and sunny here. Our temperature will be up to 52F/11C today.

I'm ready for my java if it will ever get brewed,
Cripes, please do not talk about riots even in a jesting way. Here in France, and yes I actually live here, have done so for 30 years, this violence and unrest is no joking matter.

Hayly maybe you are overlooking some of the lads who might be using foundation, no need to limit the call, right?
Sorry I'm a bit scarce. Was trying to finish a story before I go. Not for here, alas. I'm going to try to focus on this place in 2019 but I also said that about 2018. Anyhow, vacation starts tomorrow and we leave for our trip on Friday. Won't have Internet for much of the time so you'll have to live without your favorite ape for a week or so.

Kettle is hot, green tea is brewing.

Halloween looms and my annual story is here. Is it a trick? Or a treat? Let me know.

Just starting on my second cuppa java. I've been checking some statistics here on our site.

Did you know that only twenty people have written over a third of all stories here? About 9,560 stories have been posted here and those twenty busy little bees have contributed about 3,340 stories. That means some 820 authors wrote the rest, around 6,180.

Not only that, but there have been 290 of those writers who only published one story. That was all they wanted to post, I guess. But it occurs to me that may be why we have so few really active people here. So many simply told their one story and moved on. I do wish we could change that somehow.

Anyway, bottoms up with one more cuppa.

I wouldn't worry about the 290. Probably drive-bys without much to say. It's really the rest of the 820 that are the ones to focus on. And with some of those, the problem is likely divided attention. I have limited time for writing and I still write for other sites. I'd like to focus more on here but somehow my mind wanders into other realms at times. Perhaps in 2019 I'll shift my focus.

I do have a concern about the degree to which this sites seems mostly focussed, intentionally or not, on micro-fiction, short musings, and such. For someone like me who likes worldbuilding and developing his plots and characters, it doesn't always look that welcoming to longer works when you run down what's on the front page.

Men? Do you think President Trump uses foundation? ... matte with a touch of yellow ferrous oxide .. (used in pharma as a coating).

I didn't mean to offend with the riots thing. Have edited the post. As I was writing it I did think of not posting it at all.. but then I would have forgotten it. I know you live in France. I used to visit a lot when I was at boarding school. Now I come each year at the end of September and stay through to the end of November at least. My Mum used to live there. I left Paris 2weeks ago and it was a really sad experience. It was the first time I have ever been glad to leave. It's such an awesome place.

It is such a shame that peaceful protests get hijacked and now the Strasbourg stuff. So sad.
Brought in a load of Christmas goodies for the coffee house crowd. Fruitcake, plum pudding, shortbread cookies, mincemeat tarts, and a big bowl of eggnog (with a bottle of rum handy to spike to taste). Candy canes, too, of course.

I'll be on vacation and mostly offline after today and possibly until after Christmas so I'm sending out an early and cheery "Merry Christmas" to all the SS gang. May all the hope, peace, joy, and love of the season be with you and yours!

Have a great holiday in the sunshine, Scott! Happy Christmas! 🌲🌲🌲
Happy Christmas, Scott and Cnythia. And to all the regular crowd.

I'm off to a pickup rehearsal tonight. The shows are on again Friday, Saturday (two performances) and Sunday matinee.
How wonderful for Scott to be away again for a lovely holiday. Merry Christmas to him and Larry and Cynthia and all the members of this wee welcoming site. I'm so glad we have this Coffee House and I have to get up earlier to get some coffee. What a delicious load of goodies Scott is leaving us with.

Larry, you are having a wonderful time with this Kansas Nutcracker - so different and entertaining, no wonder it is sold out for every performance.

Went shopping today and will have to go again even though most gifts are small and just to show our good wishes for our friends and family.

I will be checking in more often and see if I have anything exciting to say....probably not. Although I do have lots and lots of deer that see no reason they can't come right up to the house and eat anything growing around it. Go out and get within 15' of them and clap my hands and say "shoo" - they just look at me. Seriously. I think I look pretty threatening. Oh and black bears. They will become a problem like the deer population soon. So many around.

Anyway, Merry Christmas and enjoy the season.
Hey friends! Anyone care to join me for a late night coffee while I read some stories or perhaps try and write one?
Hello lovely Laura! Great to hear from you, Elizabeth and hope your rehearsal went well Larry!

Another bitterly cold morning with high winds. A cup of Earl Grey tea would go down nicely. ☕
Still here, Cynthia?

It's a properly pleasant day. Bright and sunny.

The coffee has brewed and I'm having my first cuppa java while computer updates get installed.
Hi Guys. Any Glühwein available. Nothing like it on these cold December evenings.

Hi Larry! I'm checking in again. Definitely a hot drink needed for a cold night here!

Just now out the door for a Friday performance.

You sleep well, dear lady.

I had never heard of this until I recently saw it in a store and bought a bottle. My youngest son informed me it is his girlfriend's favorite wine this time of year.

I went back and bought a few more bottles since she is here from Germany for the holidays.

She also brought a lot of beautiful homemade cookies she baked.

I'll take a diet soda of some sort to counteract the number of cookies and chocolate I've eaten. I'll be in the corner checking over my list of things still to do or buy before Christmas.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend.
Good morning, Gill. I've probably had maybe ten bottles of wine in my whole life. Not a clue what is really good or not. Enjoy, folks.

Leaving for a matinee in an hour.

I'm having my third cuppa java, preparing myself to go out. It's still rather chilly.

For those unfamiliar with Glühwein, it is a kind of mulled wine which should should be taken hot but not boiled. It really chases the cold away.

We have hot mulled wine here, which is a variation on Gluhwein. Very warming and seasonal!

Hope the perfornance went well, Larry!
It's raining here again. I am thinking of building an arc.

I am back to planning family gatherings. Perhaps I should become a professional planner.

At least I have gotten much better at delegating and assigning tasks to others.

I'll have a ginger-ale and go sit in the corner perusing recipes and making more lists.

Yes... has been one of those days!

It's the time of year where it's pretty much grey all day and dark by 4.30 pm! Brrrrrr!

Well done on the delegation for the family party, Gill! You are an ace planner.

Cup of Earl Grey here please. ☕
It's done. Final performance of The Nutcracker. I don't expect to do it next year. I'm tired.

The weather has been rather nice here. In the 50s during the day. Some people hoping for snow on Christmas.

I'm brewing my cuppa java now.

Larry, with the boss man gone south for a few days in the sun, do customers need to brew their own java? Not complaining, you understand, but cleaning up afterward might be a challenge. ;)

The cleaning gets done in the same manner that it does in an Awesome Bar I know of in another place. The brews that customers of this Coffee House drink appear with the help of each patron. Perhap the clientele does not speak of it but it gets done and we seem to be enjoying our coffee and tea along with other tempting drinks that sometimes are discovered by the folks here.
'll have a cup of Earl Grey, Larry and Bill. I'll even wash up my own mug! ☕
Good morning. Nice new username, Cynthia. Is Henrietta the favorite sister of Henry? Perhaps the novel by Charlotte Lenox.

The java is brewing. Not a lot is on the horizon for the day.
