Not All Submitted Works Are "Stories"

It has been a small but nagging bone of contention with me that everything submitted -- be it a poem, story, autobiographical item or whatever -- is lumped under the same heading of 'Story'. I personally find that a tad irritating.

Not only is it misrepresentative of the work submitted it also tends to lead readers towards incorrect interpretations of the work. I have had comments on some of my true life work that has been misunderstood as fiction!

I can understand from an administrative point of view that a 'catch-all' category makes sense insofar as it makes life that little bit easier. However, when it leads to confusing readers then it is not working.

Can we not now have a change in description, from "your stories" to "your submissions" or similar?
They are all stories, according to the dictionary:

I'll draw your attention to this part:

a narrative, either true or fictitious, in prose or verse, designed to interest, amuse, or instruct the hearer or reader; tale.
Ghosts, flamingos, guitars and vodka. Eclectic subjects, eccentric stories:

But when it's noted that not all of "your submissions" have been submitted (because drafts can be stored), what will be the next pedantic complaint?

That's right. I worked in journalism for many years. Guess what we called our reports, even the driest accounts of municipal goings-on? Stories. We called them stories.

Why the use of such inflammatory language?

As a moderator you ought to be able to express yourself in a more restrained manner!

For the record, my comment is NOT pedantic: I have every damn right to ask any question I would like an answer to. If YOU cannot answer it in a right and proper manner, leave it for someone who can and will.
Also note the subcategories. Memoirs and musings. Not actually stories. However in this case stories is a broad term to cover a variety of categories, if the reader fails to notice the memiors part that is ckearly stated above the story then shame on them.

Then dont pay any mind to it. Kindly correct them, or direct them to notice it was under memoirs. Dont bash the title "story" because of a misunderstanding.
