Pets - Which would you rather have?

Hello, everyone!

I know some people love dogs and loathe cats, and vice versa. I also know many people own a pet, sometimes multiple pets. I know people are dissinterested in having a pet or are terriefied of having one, probably because of a bad past experience. I'm curious; do you own a pet? If so, what type of creature? If you chose "Other" on the poll, what is the other creature you own as a pet? Or, if that's not the case, why did you choose "Other?"

I had a dog and a cat in my youth and very much am a cat person based on that experience. Though something like a bearded dragon could be interesting. A kid who used to live across the street and was friends with my son had one.

When I was very young, maybe four years old, my best friend who lives a few blocks away had a couple of dogs that terrified me. Anytime I came over they had to put the dogs in another room. Thankfully I outgrew that fear. Throughout the years, with my family, we first adopted a Siberian Husky, Sabre. I don't remember a lot about her. She once bit my hand. Thankfully it was under a blanket. We later had an Akita, Tack ("Tack" is a sailing reference). My dad owned a nice sailboat. I went on a race once. We came first I think. There was some controversy over first and second place. It was a lot of fun. Years went by and in high school we got a Pug, Lulu. She lived 15 or 16 years. Oh, Lullubelle... After a few years, which was two or three years ago we adopted a Pit Bull, Rose. A year later Pinky was adopted, a Miniature Pinscher with some Chihuahua. The stories I could tell of Pinky and Rose, and Lulu, are never ending. Rose just hopped up on the couch and sat down on my lap! ❤️

My sister's friend back in high school had a cat which attacked me. Before that incident I've never been too font of cats. I had a friend in college who had multiple cats. One white fur ball seemed to take a liking to me. I think I was allergic to it.

I kept envisioning an actual bearded dragon so I was quite shocked when I saw images of a reptile. I think it would have to take some serious research and thought before getting a reptile. That same friend of my sister I aforementioned later in life had a small snake. I couldn't handle that, especially after I saw it eating mice.

I have a special affinity for dogs. Generally speaking, I do love creatures of all kind.

The graphic artist at my office has a Burmese python along with a couple dogs. Needless to say, she keeps the two separated. Her dogs are small and pythons have big mouths...😲

As I understand it, though, the biggest risk with pet reptiles is bacterial contamination. They are prone to carry salmonella or something like that.

Our old beagle bit me once or twice in the heat of a wild play session. Nothing malicious. If I was going for a dog again, I'm inclined to something like a golden retriever. Fairly popular around here and seem pretty chill as dogs go. I find larger dogs are less high strung than small ones (though a friend had a vizsla and it was pretty high strung and prone to biting as larger dogs go).

Dogs are very fascinating. Each breed is for the most part very unique.

Interesting to learn of the risk of bacterial contamination with pet reptiles.

Dogs. I also like ferrets. I like cats, but I refuse to live with one.

Hey, JaxRhapsody. Welcome to Stories Space! Thank you for your interesting input. I am 100%+ all about dogs. I have had a Siberian Husky and Akita when I was younger. In high school to an adult, I had a Pug. Now, I have a Pitbull and a Miniature Pinscher. My miniature pinscher sometimes resembles a ferret with the way she positions herself. I think cats are beautiful creatures but I have never been drawn towards having one as a pet.

Ferrets are kind of cool. I've never known one, but heard of people who had them. When I was in kindergarten (yes, that long ago) the school librarian had a de-scented skunk. Brought the skunk in to show us, too. They are rather lovely animals if you leave aside the whole naturally evolved chemical weapons thing.

The whole family is like that, Skunks are like the only one that uses it as a weapon. To me, ferrets smell the way Frontline Advantage used to smell.

It will come as no surprise to some that I love cats. I am absolutely not a dog person, with but two exceptions.

The first is the Siberian Husky. I think they are gorgeous, with their blue eyes and evil-looking facial colours.

The second is my son's Border Collie, Buddy. I couldn't not love him. He is the friendliest and most gentle dog you could ever meet. He is always so pleased to see me when we visit.

However, all that said, I would never own a dog.

The first is the Siberian Husky.

My family adopted a Siberian Husky when I was a young child. She was a great dog, except for the time she bit me. Thankfully I was under a blanket so it was more of a surprise with little to no pain. I did love her.

You have a great perspective on animals. I think animals as a whole are all beautiful in their unique ways. Thanks for participating in this poll, tinhatcat.
