I just looked at the search using forum option and noticed that there is no 'search all' option which means that if you want to find something, you have to know which thread to search in.
A little difficult if you are trying to remember something from long ago and can't remember where you saw it.
Is it possible to add a 'search all' option to the drop-down?

We're rather limited in what we can do to tweak the forums, and I don't think a Search All option exists. I'll ask Gav, though.
I’ve been ruminating on this for a while, and think I finally figured out the answer. When you press the Search link in the forums, you’re given two options: Search using Google or Search using Forum.

Search using Google will return results from all over, whereas Search using Forum will only return results from Stories Space. I’ll ask Gav about removing the Google search option.

Thanks for pointing it out!

Bumping this thread. The last storiesspace tweet on Twitter is still 2016 and the Facebook page is the same. I doubt that either generate much traffic for the site but two-year-old posts give the impression that the site is inactive. Any chance someone could add something up to date? Just a thought

It’s a good idea, Helen, but unfortunately I don’t have access to the Twitter account. I do have access to the Facebook page, though, and will look into updating that.

We also have a Facebook group for those who are interested:

They are looking for character-driven stories set during a time in the future where the ancient terrors that once ruled the Earth have claimed complete and utter dominion of the Earth. I've not been around as much as I had hoped to be after having surgery last month, but I still make it here every few days at least!

We're long overdue for another contest. I have an idea for one in mind, and an homage to Alan figures into it. However, I didn't realize we had the DirtyMartini badge on this site. Cool!

I have my profile set up to get an e-mail when ever someone comments on one of my stories. However, that's all that's sent is just a blank notification.

Is there any way the system could include the story title, who made the comment, and the comment in the e-mail?

All that info is posted in my Timeline profile.

Just asking.

James, I have to think this is some kind of glitch. It’s been about a month since I received any story comments, but at that time, the email notification told me which story it was made on, who left the comment (it was you!) and even provided a link. Let’s give it a few days for the kinks to work out. If it’s still happening next week, I’ll contact Gav and ask for his assistance.

i am something of a badge hound and try to collect all the badges i can but not being a writer i will never get one of those. the thing is there are a few that seem unattainable here at ss especially the famous member badge. you need 100,000 views for this one, the same as on the sister sight but there are only about 3000 members here compared to the 300,000 there. couldn't you lower the views a little?

Y0u might want t0 check 0ut the thread called "Updating badges t0 reflect reality" here in the Site Ann0uncements and Members' Feedback area. Several 0f us talked ab0ut this subject and m0re. I made up a list 0f the 0nes I th0ught sh0uld be changed and sent it t0 Nic0la. Maybe she will think ab0ut it s0me m0re f0r this site.

Larry, is the "o" on your keyboard broken? Clever workaround with the 0!

When I go to @Storiesspace on Twitter it shows the last entry was in June of 2106. But we have been tweeting stories from here very recently. I know you and I have both, Anna. I'm not sure where those tweets are going.

When you tweet a link via Stories Space, it appears on your Twitter profile, not on the @storiesspace profile. People who follow you will see it, but those who follow @storiesspace (but don't follow you) will not.

Mentions

Definition: A Tweet containing another account’s Twitter username, preceded by the "@" symbol. For example: “Hello @TwitterSupport!”
Where it appears for the sender: On the sender's profile page of public Tweets.
Where it appears for the recipient: In the recipient's Notifications tabs, which is accessible only by them. Additionally, mentions will appear in the recipient's Home timeline view (not on their profile) if they are following the sender.
Who else sees it? Anyone on Twitter who is following the sender of a mention will see the Tweet in their Home timeline.
Places it will never appear: On anyone's profile page, unless they wrote the message.

You're right – we have been lax in administering the Facebook page. I'll add rectifying that to my list of New Years resolutions.
Yes, but it's done.

Previously approved pieces that are sent in for reverification go to the top of the queue, not the bottom.
A wide variety of topics and genres are available for writers to submit in, including themes of mental illness, villains, both real and imaginary, sea terrors, gender and artificial intelligence, facets of Chinese cities, stories set in cellars and around mysterious stairs in the woods, writing by older women, about queer families and about phantasmagorical engines. Some anthologies pay writers, with payment ranging from semi-pro to token pay to contributor copies.

So we should report all businesses?

Yes, please do. Virtually all "business" profiles are spam. People who want to read and write stories and poems join as individuals, not businesses.
Authors Publish recently posted a list of submission calls for anthologies for a variety of topics and genres: poetry about rifts in America, romance fiction, apocalyptic and New England horror fiction, and more. None charge a submission fee.

http://www.authorspublish.com/five-anthologies-seeking-submission-from-folk-horror-to-poetry/

------------------------------

1. Cat’s Breakfast: An Anthology of Science Fiction/Satire
Third Flatiron pays tribute to Kurt Vonnegut on the 10th anniversary of his death. They want original speculative fiction stories that reflect his “sideways, humorous, sceptical view” (or gallows humour). For each of their anthologies, they also accept a few very short humour pieces, like Shouts and Murmurs in The New Yorker.

Length: 1,500-3,000 words, enquire if longer; about 600 words for the short humour pieces
Deadline: 15 April 2017
Pay: 6 cents per word
Details here.

2. Sixteen Rivers Press poetry anthology
They want poems that respond to the cultural, moral, and political rifts in America now; poems of resistance and resilience, of witness and vision. There is no fee for postal submissions.

Length: Up to three poems, totalling up to three pages
Deadline: 15 April 2017
Pay: Two copies of the anthology
Details here.

3. Zimbell House’s Summer Fling: Tales of Seduction
They want well-crafted stories of romances that began in summer, or lasted only through a summer. No erotica; a PG-17 rating must be maintained.

Length: 4,500-20,000 words
Deadline: 15 April 2017
Pay: One soft-cover copy of the anthology.
Details here.

4. Would But Time Wait: An Anthology of New England Folk Horror
Orford Parish Books wants horror fiction in which the present, which can be a year/decade of the author’s choosing, collides with the history, folklore, traditions, and psychogeography of a region, with the collision having a significant impact on the present (as defined in the work). Stories should use the physical, historical, and social landscapes of New England – Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont – as a focal point. Writers can invent their own folklore, traditions, and fictional New England locations. They don’t want any stereotyping, including of economically disadvantaged or marginalized people, and prefer to avoid stories of sexual violence. Authors must query before submitting.

Length: 2,000-10,000 words
Deadline: 30 April 2017
Pay: $75
Details here.

5. SNAFU Judgement day: post-apocalyptic military horror
They want stories with invading space aliens, demonic invasion, DNA-grafted dinosaurs taking over the planet, manmade viral infections that nearly wipe out humanity, or artificial intelligence – anything that would bring about the end of the world. They want stories with soldiers, and action; about what happens during the worst of the fall of humanity or afterwards. No zombies.

Length: 2,000-10,000 words; query for shorter or longer
Deadline: 30 April 2017
Pay: AUD4c/word
Details here.

Yes. This is still happening. I just checked and I cannot get to my timeline.

Quote by gypsy
It is still happening for me, too.

I logged out and logged in again, still no timeline, just the message as in the screen shot I posted here.

Has anyone else mentioned this, apart from Larry and myself?

I don't know if anyone else has reported the error message. I'll point Gav to this thread.

In the meantime, my only suggestion is the standard clear your cache and cookies, and if that doesn't work, try a different browser.
Is this still happening? My timeline looks fine to me. I've logged out and back in a few times this week without getting the error message even once, and timeline is set to be my welcome page so it came up each time I logged in.

Hi Gav. I just noticed our newest member here, Tarasmith, is a floor polishing service in Melbourne. I could swear I've seen the same advertisement on another recent member's profile. Should we report these people to you, to the admins here, or just ignore them?

Thanks, Larry. We appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Please continue to let us know about inappropriate or questionable profiles by using the Report Profile option (in the upper left corner when you're on the profile page).
Justine, the same problem has hit me hard at various times. One thing I do is read the news and frame a flash fiction piece around an item that piques my interest. Another tactic is to write a fictional account based on something that happens during your day.

For example, "Divine Justice" is based on an item in the news, while "The Virtue of Patience" is loosely based on an actual occurrence.

Oh, and yet another way I've tricked myself into writing is to jot down as many six-word stories as you can think of, then build longer stories around your favorites. "The Assignment," "No Big Deal," "The Wait" and "It's Over" resulted from that technique.

Good luck!

... the posts are gone. Why were they removed? We were having fun, innocent fun actually. It wasn't hurting anybody. Sure it was in a font that is specifically symbols, but we were quoting a song. And anyone who played the game Undertake would have gotten the reference.

Ugh, I'm done. I'm sorry but the forums have been dull. People are trying to revive the site and asked others to post in the forums and read and comment and try to get this place hopping again. But if we can't have some fun without it being removed like that what's the point. No one even bothered to ask what we were doing you just assumed. And how is that fair to us? Sigh how annoying screw this

I removed the back-and-forth posts consisting entirely of emoji/emoticons/symbols (whatever you want to call them). They were exclusionary, a private conversation and inside joke between two people in a forum thread intended for all members. If you want to do something like that in the future, that's fine — but START A NEW THREAD, tell us up front what you're doing, and provide a key so others can decipher what you're saying. Then others can play along if they wish or ignore if they wish.
do I still have to pay?
do I still have to care?
tell me, please, why should I?
tell me, please, who says so?

do I still have to show up?
do I still have to try?
tell me, please, what's the point?
tell me, please, when will I know?

do I still have to smile?
do I still have to pretend?
tell me, please, where did the time go?
tell me, please, how did it slip away?

do you know the who-what-where-when-why and how of it all?
tell me, please
Quote by rbo
No it's not, but as a general rule for writers it works. And you can't have a green great dragon smile

True!
