Question - I wrote the story, it says exactly 1000 words on my document but when I copy it into the submission box it is over 1000 and I am confused how that happened? Is there some glitch? or is it including the title and authors note into the word count as well? And if so, does our exact word count include the authors note and all that too, or is it just the story itself?
As Mendalla said, we know about it but we have ways of checking. As long as you have 1000 it will go through.
A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words
For this contest, we wanted to add a bit of a challenge for some of you. As the title suggests, the word count will be one thousand. Allow one of the photos provided to spark your imagination! You are allowed to interpret this however you wish because we want to know what these pictures bring to mind. All categories are available except for Mico-Fiction, Plays, Poetry, and Songs.
Quick Facts:
The word count is one thousand.
Please include the photo you choose as your cover photo. If you’d like to add your title or name to it that is fine.
You cannot submit already published work.
All Stories Space rules and guidelines apply.Nfv06z8qqOeSfDSG
Yes, we know the word count is sometimes off but we have ways of checking so please rest assured if you see one a little over it has been checked and it’s only our counter being fickle.
The ending date is December 30, 2022
The winners will be announced on January 6, 2023
Prizes:
First: $150 (USD)
Second: $75 (USD
Third: $50 (USD)
Have fun and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!
Hello everyone. I know that I posted this earlier in the week, but I wanted to put it here as a reminder for everyone.
Please be advised that there will be scheduled downtime across our network on 30th November from 9:30 AM UTC to 10:30 AM UTC. This is because we are performing work on our core servers for improved performance and future-proofing. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.

I've just finished a nanowrimo novel and would love to post instalments and obtain feedback. However, I'm concerned about first publishing rights. It's nowhere near publishing standard as yet but I'm hoping it may (just about!) be in the future. The query is, would posting it on this site mean I have lost my first publishing rights?
You find yourself in a cleft stick with this. You want to be read but can't be because of the first publishing rights issue. A tad frustrating and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that!
Grateful for any advice. Apologies if there's a place for this somewhere else on the site - I searched but couldn't find anything.
Hello. You keep the rights to your stories/poems/etc. If you post it here and would like to remove them at any time to publish them you can. We won't question it. Other people, myself included, have some stories here that are also posted somewhere else.
I believe and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but most publishers want your story off of free sites before it is published. Other than that, please feel free to share.
Good morning! I'll just leave this here.

Hello. We thought it would be fun to give you all a photo challenge to keep those creative juices flowing. You all came through beautifully with the last competition and we don't want the momentum to stop!
Here are the rules:
- I will give the photo prompt, every story should have the photo as its cover(if you need help let me know).
- From there you are free to take it where ever you'd like and in whatever category and length you choose.
- Please make sure to follow Storiespace guidelines for acceptable content.
- Please include Photo as a tag.
- This is just a challenge and all for fun, no prizes or awards will be given.
- There is no time limit for entries.
Here is your photo prompt...have fun with it!
By now some of you may have noticed a change in the profiles. We ask for your patience as we go through these updates. Comments may be missing from your profile since there are so many they are uploading separately. Also, some of your badges may be a bit screwy but we are working on those as well.
One last thing. At this time we are having a "Time Out" issue. I believe the time is an hour, but if you are writing on the site please be sure to save often so you do not lose your story. If this is not ideal you could always write off the site and then copy/paste your stories here.
I apologize to anyone that may have already lost stories and I thank you all for your patience during these changes.
Profiles - Updates And New Features
The team is continuously working on the site to bring you improvements and is now ready to launch a new look and feel to the profile pages, with a number of updates and features thrown in.
As technology progresses and improves, we have always found it to be our responsibility to ensure that our standards don't fall behind. This is why our development of the site never stops, either on the front-facing appearance of the site or systems that operate behind the scenes.
Our focus with profiles has been to give an up-to-date look and feel, prioritizing improvements for mobile device users, making many of the options easier to use, and giving users more control over what content they would like to show.
Profile updates will start rolling out from the 31st of October!
I would like to thank each and every one of you that participated, read, scored, commented, and judged. We couldn't do this without you and I appreciate you and your contributions to this site.
So without further ado, I would like to congratulate your top 10!
