Beyond The Veil Poetry Competition!

Beyond the veil has been described as, a mysterious or hidden place or state, especially the unknown state of existence after death.

“…and yet what you cannot see is there before your eyes. It is the mystery that guards all other mysteries. An enlightened soul once said, ‘See what is before your eyes, and nothing shall remain hidden from you’. It is time to see what is before your eyes…”

What does this phrase bring to you? Is it love, spirituality, or fear of the unknown? Perhaps something more, something deeper. We want you to open your mind and slip beyond the veil.

Cool comp - I'm glad it's poetry this time! I'll enter, though I am one crappy poet.

Fire and Ice - A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words competition, first place

Monster - Survivor competition, first place

I love poetry. This comp has an excellent theme. I am very excited.

Oh man – POETRY!

About the only poems I'm any good at are Limericks.

An unpoetic Bear name of Jimmy

When asked to write poems would shimmy

Then stutter and stare

Look off into thin air

And beg to be let off with a gimmie!

.

Beyond the veil, eh?

Maybe a bridal story??

Hmmm…

Oh, Bear, I first thought of a bridal story. 😀 But, then went darker… 😈 I love idea of using bridal veil in some way, though, and hope you go that route.

I may be first in because an idea has taken hold in my imagination and is burrowing until I can stretch my unused poetry muscles and get it out.

Just a simple girl from Kentucky scribbling her way through this great big world.

I am waiting for my muse to strike, but maybe this weekend. We're on a long weekend in Canada so I have three days without work interrupting.

(And now I have this weird image of a woman walking into my home office and slapping me, which then results in me bashing out a prize-winning poem. 🤣)

Halloween looms and my annual story is here. Is it a trick? Or a treat? Let me know.

Poetry isn’t just stanzas, but emotion, too,

But hand over heart, I assure you,

Free verse, rhyming are nothing to dread,

You can crawl over the bar set with my Day of the Dead.

Can’t wait to read y’all’s entries!

Woo Poetry! I have written two poems already for this theme, the trouble will be deciding which poem will be the contest candidate and which will not.

I have a couple, too, but I think the first one is out. The second one feels better to me. May hold on to the first for a post-comp release.

I was thinking the same about the poems I wrote. The second one I wrote feels better to me too. smile

I am stalled/blocked right now but there's more than three weeks to go so definitely will get something in by the deadline. If nothing else, I can polish the first one I started and use it. Just not really happy with it.

Congratulations on all entries thus far! Thank you for participating. I hope we get 10 entries as well, Molly, if not more. This is a fantastic comp. I have been thinking over ideas for my poem daily. As usual, it is a process. I finally began writing today. Hopefully I will finish and submit tonight, probably tomorrow. Either way, a new entry shall be seen soon. ❤️

And Cora makes six! Also, please feel free to advertise this on other social media.

Already promo'd on some sites I am on including my other writing site but I don't do the big social media sites so someone else will have to deal with promo'ing it on X, FB, etc.

I really didn't think I'd be able to get in on this but looks like I have a rough draft. So exciting! and I'm excited to read others' work!

Poetry? Seriously!

Lol, well I channeled that Welsh git, you know the one ...

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And there's a villanelle loaded under my name which I will tinker with over the next couple of days. It's not Dylan, but that's not surprising, after all I'm no poet. Many new writers start with poetry; why, I ask, it's literally the hardest writing task of all?

My latest story, Mardi Gras Competition: Sydney's Mardi Gras: We Shall Overcome

Some earlier stories:

Spooky Tales competition: Tales From the Crypt: Downunder Edition

Tam-challenge Micro: Under the Red Hoodie

Maybe my best story: Finding Pride on Oxford Street

So true, Annie! I always struggle with poetry – but then, perhaps that's how it's written: as a struggle.

Except limericks, of course.

I love Haiku, but trying to write one is … a struggle.

Death brushes by me,

While disfigured by its touch

I wait for falling snow…

Good to see you will be entering CA! And a villanelle no less. Looking forward to it.

I remember that Larry used to work with different poetry forms. I always learned from them. We miss you, Survivor.
