Today I watched a story on Vox YouTube concerning how, even after all the post-apartheid changes, little has actually changed about segregation and economic opportunities in South Africa. After further research online, including information and statistics from the South African government, it seems that very little has changed in practical terms. It has only been a little more than half a century since the last 'Jim Crow' racist laws were overturned in the US, and race relations are much better but still are far from perfect. It seems that it will take several generations in South Africa to have meaningful reforms, but I hope they are on the right path. Growing up during the later years of the Civil Rights era has made me appreciate the great strides we have made in America and how much work still remains.

Looking at South Africa's situation has given me a chance to evaluate our progress, usually two steps forward and then one step back, in the US.

On this day in 2014, The Brooklyn Cyclones, attracting a sellout crowd of 8,241 fans at MCU Park in Coney Island, celebrate the 25th anniversary of the debut of Seinfeld, an iconic sitcom about nothing that initially ran for nine seasons on NBC, from 1989 to 1998. The tribute to the iconic television series includes players taking batting practice in puffy pirate shirts, a low-talker announcer, an Elaine Benes dancing contest, a 'Magic Loogie' bobblehead of Keith Hernandez giveaway, and renaming the foul poles the Festivus poles. It was so popular that it is now a yearly event selling out early each year. (not including 2020 because no minor leagues played that year) The Cyclones were a class A (low) minor league team in the New York - Penn League affiliate of the New York Mets.
