I think you look great, especially in a kayak.
You can't get there from here, because when you get there you're still here and here is now there.

I can see you wearing pink with a hint of blood red into it
I'm feed up that I can't write properly. I start to write but I just can't finish it to the end. It is pathetic

I have read so much of your excellent writing. This is just a short lapse. Keep at it and turn that frown upside down.

Ah! You are right my dear friend.
I wonder what kind of bed I should get for a three week old kitty to sleep in!?!? sad

Are you saying that's how you sleep?

I am writing and posting perhaps the most ambitious project I have ever undertaken - my 'Going Away series - yet it is getting very few views and even less comments. 'Disappointing' doesn't even begin to cover it...

One begins to wonder 'why bother?'...

This is such a huge problem on the site! We have so many outstanding writers, but so many of our members do very little reading. You know I am reading your series. (BTW everyone, it is pretty good. you should check it out.) Have you seen my new story. Give it a read and if you do not care for that type of story, then I would not expect you to continue. Swords & sorcery fantasy is not everyone's' cup of tea. I read all my friends work. Even if it is not necessarily my favorite genre, because on Stories Space we help each other improve. (At least I hope that is what everyone would like to do. Improve and help others improve in their writing also) To do that we read each others work and comment on the strengths and weaknesses. Constructive criticism can sometimes be hard to here, because we try so hard to get it right ourselves. But that criticism, if used, can make us better. I personally follow approximately 120 writers on here. Health permitting, I at least try everything they write. I vote about 90% of the time and comment about 50%. I read tons of poetry, but that is the genre I least understand, so often that is the type I will not vote or comment on, because I can not with any real confidence delve into it. If I start reading a long series and 3-5 chapters in I am not enjoying it, I will stop reading that series, but at least I give it a try.

Andy, this statement is not aimed at you unparticular, but I read many writers on here complain about the poor readership (for good reason), but they do not read or comment on other writers either. We as a collective should try to do better at this.

Andy, do not be discouraged. I will keep reading and hopefully others will realize that to make the a better site we need to be writers AND readers.

Let me ask this of every member of Stories Space. Do you read your friend's writings? I do. Almost all of them. If you do not, then what kind of friend are you really? Larry Nigh, a senior member of our site and good friend of mine, read, voted and commented on the 1st part of my new series even though I know he is not a fan of the genre at all. There is a true Stories Space friend. I have 76 'friends' on the site right now. The question is; how many will take the time to read my story, at least trying it? If recent history repeats itself, then about 1/4 will. It worries me what this says about our site. Do you think new writers will want to join a site that has almost no readers. I can tell you from 1st hand knowledge that they often pass us by because of it. We need more good new writers, because they we also be our new readers too.

Sorry to sound preachy, but this is probably the #1 problem on this site and that hurts me, because it is us doing to ourselves.

I agree 100% with all you have said Roland. This is such a great site to read, write and learn. The friends I have formed are wonderful too. People come and go here like anywhere, on line and in real life. On this site, we have people like ourselves that have a love of writing, so yes we do need to support them with our votes and comments. It encourages us to keep on improving. So I will take the hint and do way better then I have been. Have to stop being lazy and make a habit of getting here and putting my two cents in.
Thanks for the kick in the pants my friend!
hugs
Kari
I agree also. I have alot of reading to catch up with anyways.
It's good to hear your thoughts, Roland. I personally post works on at least five sites now. It's nice to have views. That's for sure. Some places are better than others. I was wondering if this site is going to disappear if there is not more activity. It happened to another site that Nicola owned. I often think I don't get as many views as I wish. But one thing about this site is that there is more socializing than on a lot of other sites. That makes it a better place to spend time. And I will continue to put my work out there for anyone who cares to try and enjoy it.
Actually no. Who are you to make me feel bad for my decisions years ago. What part of I do not love him do you not understand. Don't make me feel guilty because I didn't cater to him and live a miserable life just so he can be happy. Just him, I would have died inside. So those snide remarks and impossible questions all forcing me to feel bad because I should have felt love for him when I didn't news flash I don't owe him anything.

So what if you where held at gun point and the only way to save you is to kiss him on the lips.
Okay what if I would die internally and the only way I could prevent that is by saying no. I said no. That is my right. Don't tell me otherwise.
It's just a dreary memory stuck in your mind.

This is the nub of the problem, from what I can see. What is happening is that cliques are forming whereby ONLY friends of the author (to a certain extent) are reading, commenting and voting on their friend's works, completely ignoring pretty-much everyone else.

As regards leaving comments and constructive feedback, forget it! Surely you have not forgotten the shit-storm that blew up last year when I asked people to leave honest comments? No, Roland, honesty is what is needed but not necessarily what is wanted. It is for that reason that latterly I have not bothered to comment on a lot of the work I read - unless it is exceptional - because honest comments do not go down well.

I believe it is the saccharine 'niceness' of this site that is its biggest enemy. I'm sorry if that sounds inflammatory, but just look at the way in which anything remotely 'controversial' is jumped on, by fellow members and mods alike. This is an adult site and, as in real life, adult subjects and adult responses WILL crop up on occasion. It is in our nature to be argumentative and to disagree from time to time. By trying to nullify that instinct it is killing the site. Any casual visitor will see that wonder what sort of place this is!

I am all for trolling, bullying and flaming to be stamped out at source. That is right and proper. But to deny adults the right to disagree and express themselves in an adult manner? No, that is not right and it cannot be sustained. I expect people to disagree with this post: some because they disagree with pretty much anything I say anyway and others because they genuinely do not want to see the site change in any way. That's life.
I agree with you o lot in what you're saying Andy, but this is actually a family site. While yes you have to be 16 or older to join, there are in fact a lot of possible younger veiwers. I know of a few that read things to their children, that's why we have a children's category, and the rating system as it is set up.

Yes we are all adults in being able to post and comment, but there are a lot of nonmembers who can very well be underage. And note that even in the terms and conditions, they labelled this as a family site. (It's the main reason why I think the lewd members should stay on the sister site because that is the true adult site where the topics you want to descuss and such are brought up.)

Other then that, I completely agree.
Ugh double posts
Well on Monday I am going to go see Deadpool with couple of friends. It is going to be great!!!

I know I am one of the few (Entangled_Fate, Rebs, Roland, Adriana... and some others I cant remember right now) that reads not only on my friends list. Another fact, I am not on here much but I am consider a troll because I don't always give out fives even to the people on my friends list. I really don't care if they block me for down scoring them and telling them what to fix. I will still read their work. Also I am not nice

I would say a lot more but I aint in the mood to write a long ass list. Hugs Andy.

You are perfectly mad - but utterly adorable!

Keep on keeping on.
