Good evening, everyone. My latest assault on the English language for the back to school challenge is finally up for your reading pleasure. I'm also crunching to get four blog posts scheduled out for the Blogtober challenge. The building I'm living in is getting the extermination treatment, so the little one and I will be at my parents' home for a few days. Outside, the temperatures are starting to drop and it's time to get the space heater out. I'll have some dark roast coffee, with four creams, four sugars please.

Here's hoping that all are having a good day. I have the coffee brewed and there's a tea kettle on the stove. Victor is snuggled up with me. I'm not sure where the cat is hiding.

I've been watching Wunderground for the weather forecasts. It appears that there are dozens of small rainy spots surrounding this area. The most massive is a cell over the center of Kansas. I wonder if that will reach us here or not.

Victor sees me get out my dance bag and he knows I will be leaving and won't take him with me. He goes back to bed a very unhappy pup.

My family had a dog for about a decade through the 80s (died in '88, I think). We had had him for a few years when my mother went back to working outside the house part-time (she had been a stay-at-home mother since my birth in '65). The dog, who was very attached to having people around, was not amused. When Mom came home at noon, he would start baying (a beagle) as soon as Mom turned on to our street walking home from the bus stop.

Kettles on for my green tea. Anyone else?

My favorite weather has arrived. It's about 60 and breezy. I happily have all my windows open.

This evening was weird. I've had issues with my computer freezing up and restarting, my printer won't print, the dryer isn't heating and the cable box won't turn on. I've been banned from touching any electronics or appliances. Apparently I am bad luck. I'll have to call my oldest son to troubleshoot the computer. Hopefully, he'll keep the sighing to a minimum.

Maybe it's a sign I should be quietly reading a book.

Happy Weekend Everyone!
Bah to computer issues, Gill! Reading a book to distract you from the sighs of your son fixing it sounds a great idea! How is Apollo doing today?

It's 14 degrees here (that's 57F), wet and windy but it has warmed up a bit after the wild weather of mid-week. Some of Larry's coffee would do nicely, please. smile

The coffee is good here today, Cynthia. I'm always glad to see you drop by and join us. We are finally having the Autumn weather really surrounding us. There is a 100 percent chance of precipitation today. It will still get hot again, but we know it is Fall now. We can feel it out there.

I'm off to do some shopping soon. It's time to get some of the weekly bargains. Victor will just have to go back to bed while I'm gone.

My son's first question was why haven't I gotten a new laptop. I told him he was welcome to buy one for me. He's going to work on it tomorrow so in the meantime I'm logging in on my phone which I'm not a fan of. I think my fingers are too big, lol. I don't know how people manage that. But that is what I'm stuck with for now.

Apollo is doing much better. His head is still tilted slightly and they have no idea why but he's eating purring and running around with our other cat so I am not going to worry about him for now.

We had our first chilly night. I love sleeping snuggled under a comforter with cool breezes blowing through the bedroom.

I tackled all the closets in my house and have them organized so today I am am going to attempt to do the same to my bookcases. I may be gone for a few days. 😀

Cheers!
Sorry to hear about your computer woes, gill. Hope your son gets it sorted out for you. I'm the geek in our household (20+ years working in IT) so computer problems tend to land on my plate. My son is more than capable of dealing with stuff, too, but he's too far away now to be much help.

Furnace is now on, though not running much yet. Got some yard work done including, I hope, the final mow of 2019. Definitely Fall though not a lot of leaf action around here, yet.

Time to switch to herbal tea, I guess.

I hear ya on the yard work. I think we have one final mow/mulch of grass and leaves too. Gutters are on the agenda. So is picking a few buckets of crab apples to make crap apple jelly. I might attempt some crab apple liquor of some sort too.

Gill, computer issues suck. Just glad you don't have an overseas call center to deal with. I keep it local now. But we are down to our last computer. I told my kids we aren't getting another until this Dell (bad purchase) craps out. How old is it, you ask? There's a Windows Vista sticker on the CPU. So, twelve or thirteen years old. A while ago, I did upgrade to Windows 10 without issue, so I have that. I wonder if there have been any technological advancements in computing since I last purchased a computer.

Darn. Almost 5 am here. I do dislike waking in the middle of the night.

Herbal tea sounds like the ticket. I'll just sneak a sip of my fellow Canuck's.

Good Morning, Sunday!!!
It's a bit too wet to sort out my back yard here, but I will need to prune back some of my plants, do a bit of weeding and sweep up all the dust and stuff, if/when we have a couple of dry days in a row.

I'll just continue the swap over in my wardrobe from summer to winter clothes and put things away in storage bags. I do keep promising myself to de-clutter and take the excess up to the charity shop, so we'll see how successful that is!

Hope your son sorts out your computer okay, Gill and glad Apollo is doing better!

Ping, I have a Dell laptop too that is over 10 years old. It has its moments but luckily a friend of mine who is a retired IT guy has managed to fix any glitches. So far!

I really need some coffee to get me going today. Any of Larry's Java on the go?
My wife's old Win7 box still gets dusted off from time to time as backup or because it's the only one we have with a CD/DVD drive now. Slow as molasses for the most part but has its uses.

SSDs (solid state drives) are the biggie. They use the same memory technology as in phones and thumb drives to create a smaller, lighter and, above all, FASTER hard drive than the old spinning magnetic platter. They are also quieter (no spinning platter) and allow for smaller form factors (my wife's "desktop" is smaller than a lot of laptops). We use them in everything at work now. So my one recommendation if you're going to replace that old Dell is get something with an SSD.

Likely Larry's left some around here. I'm putting the kettle for my morning cuppa.

Good morning, lady Cynthia. Hi, G and Scott. Yes, there is always coffee brewing. The water just needs to come to a boil once again for the tea drinkers.

We have a lawn service. They will stop mowing each week whenever the weather says to do so. After that, they will clear snow if it reaches specified depths on the sidewalks.

I will need to cut back the purple hyacinth bean vines. They are annuals here so will have to be replanted in the spring. But the wisteria growing up onto the pergola is solidly there and will start blooming next year, I'm sure.

I am using a Macbook Pro at present. There are three in the house at the moment.

There was definitely a chill in the air today. It was 48F/9C this morning while I walked Victor. Not really looking forward to it getting colder. Nope.

I was being facetious. Everyone is so literal today. I told my neighbour to go f... and he did.

So you're the one keeping them in business, eh.

A green tea will go nicely as I wait for my son to get on .

Hi, Rump (and anyone else laying about). Tea for me. Just got a new shipment of loose leaf from my regular dealer (damn, that sounds bad, doesn't it? ). Scottish and Irish breakfast and a couple new senchas (Japanese green).

Moon challenge story is proving to be more of a challenge than I expected, though part of that is me trying to go somewhere different with it. First idea was a bit too close in mood to Lady In The Lake for my comfort.

Hello, Scott. Hey, Bill.

So, Scott, you are thinking about doing a moon story that will be a ghost story? That might be fun, if not close too what you just did. That could be a worry.

Anyway, I'm having my first cup. I am getting going late today. I was very tired but perhaps I can get up and about now.

Not a ghost story per se, but definitely moody, even haunting, with a supernatural element. And "were" is probably the proper verb form. I've sidelined it while I try to shift gears mentally to something better.

My favorite moon story (one of my favorites, at least) is s-f and involves a couple getting it on in a type of "moon tent" and having to find a way back to base after the airlock deflates with their clothes in it (roughly, I'm sure I'm getting some details wrong). Forget who wrote it but I think I read the original magazine publication, possibly in Omni in the eighties, and I've seen it in a couple anthologies over the years. It's hilarious but still has suspense to it given their precarious situation. I'd love to come up with something more in that spirit.

That's really good to know, Scott. Thanks for the advice! Useful for when my Dell finally gives up the ghost (see how I got this back round to stories? )

Coffee to get me up and running would be just the ticket!
My tea shipment has arrived. A couple breakfast teas, a couple greens, a "Duke of Earl" (Earl Grey with a shot of vanilla). Kettle's on!

Definitely Fall here. Single digits when I got up this morning. With Canadian Thanksgiving looming (next Monday), it's about time.

Best of mornings. Chilly on the doggie walk this morning. The coffee smells good.

This week I intend to get the house painted inside. The last rooms still awaiting the paintbrush. I've been rather lackadaisical about doing it. We did the three bedrooms and two baths last year and simply put off finishing the rest. This week it will get done. Then it has been decided we need to paint the kitchen cabinets. It never ends.

Last time we did our place, I just booked a week off and we did the whole house, top to bottom. Probably coming due for another one but I patched and painted some holes, dents, and dirty walls last year so maybe that's enough for a while.

Morning, y'all. Scott, I hate to learn about your troubles over on that other site you often infest. IMO and 25 words or less: That sucks!

reading one of your earlier posts got me to wondering if a spooky challenge might attract a few entries. Me, I don't know, as usual. Any thoughts.

(slurp) Good coffee. Keep up the good work.

I actually had an idea for a challenge/prompt (not a spooky one) last week and its slipped off into the dark, dank recesses of my mind now. I'm sure it will come back to me like a bad chili.

I can't really take credit for the coffee. That's Larry's thing. I avoid the stuff like the plague. Now, Scottish breakfast tea, I know a thing or two about *takes sip*

I keep trying to write but have not had any success in that department.

I did get my computer woes sorted out. My oldest son was able to remotely clean out the virus and reformat my computer so it's working well again. At least since he was doing it remotely I didn't have to see any eye-rolling I just had to listen to sighs. He's always very helpful but I think his generation thinks my generation shouldn't have computers.

Now I am waiting for the dishwasher repairman to return again. He put in a new motor but that only solved one problem. Had to order two more parts which will hopefully fix all the issues. It is only 6 months old so it's rather irritating that it does not work properly.

I have been painting too and working on my house these days. I spent so much time with my parents that I neglected mine and it needs some work. Finished painting and redoing two bedrooms that my boys used to occupy. Now we are going to remodel the master bath and I will finally get the soaking tub I have always wanted.

It is a beautiful fall day here, cool and breezy, my favorite weather. I just stopped in to say hello grab a bottle of water and I will get back to work. I hope everyone is having a good day.

Cheers!
I better not be hearing any complaints from the lot of ya! Don't make me write another piece that no one will vote on

Very chilly today. -6 C over night. I think I'll take an ice bath to get ready for winter.

Some frozen nitrogen on ice please. A little lemon flavoring would be nice too.
You must be out West. Hasn't got that bad in Ontario yet, though it's edging closer. Only 7 when I left for work today (8am).

Sure you wouldn't rather have something hot? Melted steel goes good with lemon, I hear.

* sigh * I've probably used that one before, right?

Green tea time.
