It was my fate to have my father pass before he was seventy. He had smoked his entire life and had numerous strokes and heart attacks. Then my mother had to go through cancer with bungling doctors ending her life much too short in her seventy-sixth year. I've been so much luckier and I know it.

We'll all share a hug for the heartaches we have gone through.

The coffee I make is always Arabica, Anna.

My Dad was like that in his last days, Anna, so my heart goes out to you. He was only 80, too. Have a hug or two on me. And we'll make sure the coffee is of the "spoon stands up on its own" variety, at least for you.

Thank you, gentlemen. I am ok with it all but the last few days have been so busy that my holiday seems but a distant memory now.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." George Santayana

Dealing with aging parents is quite stressful especially when you don't have the help and support of other family members.

I hope you can relax at least for a time.

I am lucky that my parents are doing well considering their ages and my father's dementia. Also that they can afford the retirement community they are in now.

I really really need to catch up on my reading but I have been finding it hard to do much of anything. After my parent's house sale and their move, I had surgery.

The recovery has been a bit problematic and I will need further treatment. It should all be fine eventually but some days I struggle.

I hope everyone is doing well.

I'll have ginger ale and sit in the corner and try to read until I get sleepy enough to go to bed.

Cheers!
Good morning! Coffee's on, kettles boiling, and I picked up some goodies on the way. Muffins and donuts for all.

Got a new story in mind to write. It's a bit of a spooky one so I'll move quickly on it to get it up for Hallowe'en. Doesn't tie to any challenges, just a nice old school ghost story.

Halloween looms and my annual story is here. Is it a trick? Or a treat? Let me know.

Thanks for the donuts and muffins. Reminds me I need to make banana bread since no one ate the bananas I bought.

I love a good old fashioned ghost story. Can't wait to read it. Since I had time I went through all the bookshelves in my house and pulled out several collections of short stories. I'm going to tackle them next. Do you have a favorite short story or short story author?

The first two collections I pulled off my bookcase were by Joe Hill and Henry James.

Mother nature must have been listening to me because today it is beautiful and cooler with less humidity. The 90s return for the weekend but I will enjoy having the windows open for the next couple of days.

I'll take a muffin to go. Need to start going through my attic. After cleaning out my parents house it made me realize I need to start purging some things in my own.

Cheers.
Good morning folks.

Finally have my first cup. Have to let it cool a bit. Now I can get this poem done this morning. I'll move on to the Moon challenge later.

The pup is settled down next to me for his first morning nap.

Hard to pick a favorite short story, but some of my favorite short story authors are M. R. James, H. P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Ramsey Campbell, and Shirley Jackson. Robert Bloch, best known for the novel behind Psycho, wrote some really good ones over his long career (in fact, he and H. P. Lovecraft "killed" each other off in an informal trilogy of short stories that came out of their correspondence). Haven't read Joe Hill much yet, but I was a big fan of his father (Stephen King, for any who don't know) through the eighties and he wrote some damn fine short stories. Sometimes prefer them to his novels.

Tea-time.

How y'all are? Me, I'm in need of coffee.

Larry, don't you dare bother Vic. For is it not written that one should, "Leave sleeping dogs alone'?

Favorite short story writers: Hemingway, Poe, O. Henry, Eudora Welty, Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor

Favorite short story writers: Flannery O'Conner, Eudora Welty, Shirley Jackson, Dashiell Hammett, Carson McCullers, John Updike. To name a few.

I've just published a new poem here. A sweet bit of romantic fluff. Still working on the Moon challenge.

That is so cute! If your puppy is anything like mine, he wakes up.. eats.. plays for a New York minute then passes out for a long nap. Life is tough.

I'm relatively new here (joined in Jan but just decided to give the story writing a go). I will take a coffee while I get acquainted. smile Also.. I have a new story on my page for those interested in a quick, fun read.

Welcome, Tams, both to the site and to Inspirations. Grab a cuppa your favorite hot or cold beverage (I recommend the green tea for afternoon drinking) and join in. I'll give your story a boo later.

I'm the ape who started this coffee house thread but don't let my species intimidate you. We're quite good once you get to know us (Planet of the Apes is just anti-gorilla propaganda and don't get me started on King Kong). My scribblings, at least the ones on here, can be found at the link in my sig.

Thanks oh hairy one.

I will sip some green tea and head over to your catalog.

The Ape is also a smarty-pants.

I resemble that remark.

I'll join you in that sweet tea.

Tonight is the next episode in the newest PBS series by Ken Burns. Country Music will be telling the story of the music from 1984 to 1996. We've been watching it all along, just missing the very first episode.

That comes on in about 30 minutes.

I need to settle in with some popcorn and some sweet tea.
Good evening, everyone. I'm writing another blog post and a story is starting to creep into my mind. I was able to jot down a page of a yet-to-be-titled story. I'm also thinking about participating in Blogtober and really push my creativity in creating great content and not sacrifice my writing style. This can be an opportunity to get more readers to my site as well, were I to participate. I don't know. I need some green tea.

Welcome, Tams! Hello everyone! Nice to catch up with all your news. smile

A coffee to get myself going today would be very welcome! Too much dancing in the last couple of evenings!

That'll be New Country, right? Garth Brooks and company? I watched his series on Jazz and loved it. May give this one a boo, but country not really my thing, whereas I love jazz.

This was a Ken Burns series beginning back with the Carter Family in the 1920s. The theme of the series is the song Will The Circle Be Unbroken, written by A. P. Carter. It was intended to be an overview of the whole country music genre including all of the branches that fed the river, so to speak. It included mountain music, folk music, race music, hillbilly music, blues, gospel, rockabilly, so on. Last night was the last episode.

I need that cuppa coffee now. I have a ballet class this morning.

Howdy folks
A large sweet tea for me
*checking on the resident cat and dog (miss purr and Victor) giving them hugs*
Hope everyone is having a happy Thursday
Waiting on a trip to the library to return a big stack of books

I was going to be lazy and do some reading this evening, but that didn't work out. I couldn't find something in my closet and could not put anything else away in my husband's. I got frustrated and pulled everything out of both closets. Trying to sort through everyone got annoying so I am taking a break. I'll have to deal with it tonight if I want to sleep in my bed since everything is piled on top.

I made some banana bread and am going to make some sort of fig jam later. I'll leave the banana bread on the counter.

I'll have a glass of ice tea to enjoy while I shirk my responsibilities.

Cheers!
The 31-day challenge that is Blogtober will be something I am going to attempt to do this year, as I want to take my blogging a bit more seriously, instead of posting weekly or biweekly. I also have a short story in mind that I wrote in fragments and the characters are starting to talk to me again. Time to go write and devour a box of chocolate chip cookies

Nice day. The wind is blowing and it is not too hot yet.

A nice cup of coffee to begin the day. I believe I need to do some shopping today. That's a normal Friday for me.

I've just restocked tea, both loose and bags, and made a pot of green.

Looking like it will be a bit cool and wet this weekend here. Which is fine, I wasn't going to be outside much. Cleaning, having a visit from one of my wife's myriad aunts (her father was the eldest of eight siblings), and hopefully finishing my story. Finally got an ending on it that I am happy with, at least. It's amazing how much time one can spend wordsmithing a 2000-ish word short story. God help me if I ever do write a novel.wVf60jS6JEjIVhId

Thanks for all the warm welcome messages. I've already made some new friends and found some from another realm.

I'll take some tea please... working on final edits for a BTS Challenge entry. Should be up soon if i can get my butt in gear.
Hello, Tams and everyone else. I am writing some posts for my 31-day challenge, and so far I have 31 post ideas typed up and getting the first few scheduled out. I'm making my graphics on this rainy and stormy evening here in the Midwest. I would love to do a book review and haven't chosen which one to review. I've yet to decide if I'm going to add a video to the venture. I have graphics to make. Just keep the chocolate scones and coffee, four sugars and creams, coming

Morning all... I will take a coffee.. Wait, Im at work so maybe i should be the one serving the coffee?

I finally finished my edits (with some help from friends) and my back to school challenge story is up. Thank you, Molly!

You can click the banner in my signature below. It should take you to the story. Hope you will let me know what you think. smile
Good morning to all. Almost noon. Victor and I will be going out for a walk soon.

I'm working on my second cuppa java. One more and then no more caffeine for the day.

I've pretty much completed all of my computer chores for the day.

I am keeping up with my reading. I just finished Tam's new Back to School entry. It's a fun read.
