Good day to one and all. I'm working on my second cuppa java right now.

Just let the pup out for his morning in and out. We will take a walk at noon.

I think I may have some time to work on the challenges here. I'll see what inspirations come my way.

Edit: Bill, Gav has not added the series application to our submission panel here. I just checked in the story submission panel and it is not there. That will have to wait, I suppose.
Good Morning Everyone!

Just sitting with my coffee reviewing my writing. Up to 11,300 words now. I have the whole plot in my head, just working out the details to make the events flow smoothly. I've been hoping to call it a novel, but I'll be lucky to get to 20,000 words. The story will decide how long it is, but I feel the need to go back and flesh out some scenes. Hope you're all doing well!

Good luck. I am having trouble even getting one started these days. If you're posting here, may want to look at breaking it into 2-3 chapters, BTW. People seem to prefer shorter bits on SS these days.

Yeah, I noticed short posts get more traffic. If I have future stories, I'll keep that in mind. This is my only story at this point. I used to think that in order to have a story, I would need to know each character, have a complete outline of events, and make that framework before beginning. This time, I had an idea and a basic outline in my head. I know benchmarks I need to reach along the way, but the details and people are coming to me as I write. It's a very organic process that I'm finding a lot of fun. I get to watch the events unfold as if I'm watching it on television. I even find myself wanting to know what happens to them in the next scene!
Good morning Darren, Scott. Just got some fresh coffee from the pot to get started today.

One thing new members need so know is how to get their stories on the All Picks list on the home page. Your story will only be selected by the system to be there if you first have at lease ten votes on your piece. It is easy to see that not a lot of stories are able to do that.

You may get views from guests just stopping in to see what is new in the reading list. But you won't get many votes unless the person scoring knows you and likes your work. What I'm saying is so many new authors come here, start posting stories, and wonder why they have had few if any comments. Very little response.

The answer is fairly simple. Most people won't read your work if you're not taking the time to look into theirs. That is one reason why friendships are formed, and people follow each other. I hate to see people come and they seem to leave after posting a story or two. They're not getting the response they crave. But it can be a reciprocal thing here on our site.

Time to do my morning computer chores.
Larry, in the 'first thing first' department, would you mind sending Molly a PM with info about the new multi-chapter organizing feature you helped Gav design? She has not heard about all that.

Darron, Larry is approximately 100% correct (as usual) about the realities of vote accumulation on this and most other writing boards. To wit: to get votes and comments, give votes and comments. You might start with doing all that to some of the stories on the first and second page which have gotten to nine votes but then got stuck there, one vote below the ten needed for 'Story Pick' status

Now this is weird, while pausing to contemplate my next words to inflict on unsuspecting SS readers, something posted my incomplete message. Being a mod, I could and did edit and complete the entry. No big deal, but that's has happened before. Odds are it's the fault of: 1. my old computer and/or keyboard, 2. my screen reader fussing with the SS software package or, 3. more proof that to err is Rumple. So I'm wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen to them?

.
Morning to all that shall pop in today

Coffee hot and waiting everyone.

Just back from a 903 mile bike ride though the Ozarks and around Harrison Arkansas.

Good morning. * pours a hot tea *

I am trying to figure out what my new story is. It's in the setting of Night of the Wind and focusses on two of the characters from that story but so far it's very muted, basically just a character study of how the war that was mentioned in Night affected them. There isn't really a fantasy element beyond some world-building around the religion of their culture and not really a sense of where it is going plotwise. My original plan for doing a sequel was to make it more of a fantasy-mystery following on from the events of Night of the Wind but this doesn't feel like that story. I'll keep going and see where things land. It may be one of those cases where the story writes itself (okay, it's probably the writer's subconscious but it feels like the story is writing itself).

Halloween looms and my annual story is here. Is it a trick? Or a treat? Let me know.

I am messaging Maggie since I was one of the ones who requested it originally. I'll include a link to Gav's explanation of it.

Good morning. I did send a message to Molly as per Bill's request. I have already created eleven Chapter Story series that appear in my All Stories. I'll do about three a day until I get it completed for all the series I've written over the years. I'm trying not to tax the moderators because it appears this simple change to a story sends it to the mods for new verification.

I'm going to have one more cuppa java and then continue with my computer work.

Cheers.
Well! I am going to announce that I have joined the pack here. I submitted my first alone story today. And it is a Challenge one too. Have to admit I had someone very handsome and kind (Larry) help me not get all tangled up and frustrated. What a happy day. I think I'll have an ice tea with lemon. Deep sigh.
WA-HOO, and mega-congrats, Ms B, not only on having your first solo story in forever being posted but on it becoming one of the few (if any) which reached 'Story Picks' status on its first day. You go gal! ;)

Here's your well-deserved tea, and I'll leave one on the counter for Larry. No charge. Mendalla is still trying to figure out the travel voucher Fuzzy submitted for his bike voyage through the Ozarks last weekend.

Had to go out for some shopping but I'm back for my second cuppa java.

Really, really need to do some writing today. I think its been two weeks. That's quite a gap for me.

I'll see what I can do today.

Edit: I forgot to mention that a new writer here, edbiver83, has a story up that displays a lot of talent. You might check it out on the home page.
Any word on Mnedalla getting an expresso machine? Thought not.

Larry, I have RR's story on my 'to read' list. Two more that shouldn't be missed are, Molly's introspective, 'And I Left', along with Verbal's masterful, 'Ground Zero'., .

There's also been a whole host of 'Back To School' challenge stories and I swear on my tattered copy of Strunk & White that all of them are five-worthy.

Coffee -- please.

Thanks for the suggestions, Bill. I had already read Verbal's and just now, before entering the coffeehouse here, read Molly's musing. I am fairly certain I've read all of the challenge stories.

I need one last cuppa java and then the caffeine-free zone will be entered.

It's on order. Had to get advice on a model from my son first since he's the coffee gourmet in this family. How the hell two tea drinkers ended up with someone who grinds his own beans, I'll never know. I half expect him to start his own roaster (or craft brewery, but that's a whole other story).

I did get one of those fancy kettles that lets you set the exact perfect temp for whatever you're brewing. * hits the "black tea" button *

Oh what a delightful lift I am getting from all this kind attention. And thank you for the iced tea. I can't believe everyone has been so kind (or bored) to jump on reading my story. 'Course I do believe Larry may have had a lot to to with publicizing that I was doing my first. That helps when someone blows your horn for you.

And I am very happy to see more of our people here. I don't envy Mendalla trying to figure the travel voucher, but I have heard they charge outrageous prices to park bicycles but I've never read why they charge so much. Maybe Fuzzy can do a report on that.

Gosh! there are so many nice people in the world.
Good day. Now working on my second cuppa java. The coffee was good today. Plenty left.

Nothing important on the horizon for the day. Just touching base.

I have to make an appointment for Victor. It's time for his yearly shots at the vet. He's a good patient so no worries there.

Hope your days are happy.
Got the voucher figured out. I think. We'll see what Fuzzy thinks when he gets reimbursed.C72qwGNWH4Kd2aVX

Been working away in OneNote trying to recreate the notes I used to have about my fantasy world. The old notebook got deleted during one of my "fuck it I'm done with this shit" moments. When you've only got one or two stories in such a world (there's two right now, one here and one on another site), it's not needed, but now that I'm trying to write more in that setting, I want to make sure I keep some consistency. Plus the world has been kicking around in my head for over a decade so I want to start keeping better notes on it so I can actually remember stuff.

Just had a reminder from a writer that Stories Space has a Facebook page. It's not used much but it does exist.

I'm now finishing my first cuppa java for the day. In about an hour it will be time to head over to the arts center for my dance class.

I had a story in my head during sleep last night when just drowsing. But too lazy to get up and write anything down. It's gone for now.

Well, good day, all.

I left FB some time ago. Well, I've left about three times but this one was likely for good. Never found much use for the place.

I mentioned the FB site because LadySharon left a message there. I haven't seen her here on-site in ages.

Just finished my dance class. It is a great, fun workout for me. Working on my third cuppa java now.

Nor have I. Nice to know she's thinking about us.

It's afternoon so I'm on to green tea (Japanese sencha) now.

Tonight is the final dress rehearsal of a musical comedy here in town. I'll be going to see it. It's a fairly new musical called "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. It should be fun going to support fellow actors and crewmembers.

Have to leave the pup alone but he will be fine.

Having some tea right now before dinner will be ready.

Wow, a coffee bar! Whodathunkit? I think I'll go for a caramel macchiato with extra caramel and a spot by the window to read over some fragments for potential pieces I wrote. One of these may turn into an essay or musing of some sort. Life with a toddler is interesting, to say the least. I went from hard-partying to changing poopy diapers. I guess this is what adulting is like. I have my website up and running, and it needs a banner for this lovely place.

Good morning from Kansas.

Working on my first fresh cuppa java. I went to the final dress rehearsal of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. So well done and the costumes were outstanding. Of course, my wife is a volunteer in the costume department, so I would think that, for sure.

It was nice to see Lady Sharon drop by yesterday. Perhaps she'll do so more often.

I noted that Molly is giving us a heads up that a History category is coming and is being worked on. Another fun way to write stories.

This place needed a social hangout and this seemed better than a bar.

Been there, done that, kind of miss it at times. My son now lives several hundred km away and is in his third year of university. IOW, it may be his turn, soon (he has a girlfriend, I can hope ).

Not if anyone else is familiar with "smile cookies" but they're a charity thing that Tim Horton's does up here in the Great White North. Chocolate chip cookies with icing faces on them. Here's a box to enjoy.

I wouldn't mind doing some historicals, probably set in the Hellenistic kingdoms or Roman Empire but I'd have to put in some research time (been over 30 years since I did my Classics degree), and I don't have much time for writing as it is. Still, I think it is a much needed category.
