I've noticed that [another] site has a history section but this one does not.... Would it be possible to get a historical fiction category made here?

Dx

Thanks for your feedback! Historical fiction is at the top of the list of new categories we’re considering, so I’d chances are very good.

I personally love the history category. So that would be wonderful.
Why make it a clone of [another site]? Do something different.

I don't believe it would be cloning at all. History is a very popular genre... and I can almost hear you saying, "You would say that."

Its not up to me, but I would try to make [this site] something unique. I can see where its heading.
I meant blue. Excuse the faux pas.

This is a literary site, regardless. How could you have a literary website without a Historical fiction Category.
You are, of course, welcome to suggest additional categories if you want to. All will be considered.

What about play scripts. I really don't care. I have no fleas to scratch.

Play scripts is a good idea. But, in reality, you do care otherwise, why did you even make the suggestion? You and other members are what makes a site what it is, not just the Admin, moderators and facilitators.

We already have a Plays category. And we are not a “clone” of any other site, nor are we moving toward becoming one. In fact, we are moving to remove references to another, related site. Historical Fiction is a popular genre that more than one member has requested be added.

Oh yes, so we have...

As far as I can see there are only seven plays posted in the Plays category. I have one of them, as does Maggie, Gypsy, DeLongeWannabe, Rebellious_Soul, Welshdreamer42, and anthonychansa. I was lucky enough to have DirtyMartini verify mine. Maggie's was even awarded an RR and Gypsy's had 3,700 views. The pieces there seem to be popular from the views they have.
A Historical Fiction genre would make even more sense here than on the other site, and I believe it would be well supported by many of our writers. Four of my stories would already fit the category better than the General genre which was the only place to put them.

Could I also humbly suggest that the Poetry category is too broad and could easily be divided between short poems, romantic poems, and narrative poems. Just a thought.

Thanks for the reminder about Poetry. The category is too broad, I agree, but I’ve been struggling with how to categorize it. Metered or free verse? Rhyming or not rhyming? Love poems, humor poems, short poems, long poems — there are a lot of options.

If it helps, my technical knowledge of poetry is less than zero and I am sure I am not alone... although I could be.

Anyway, I think that genre would be a better split rather than type because I can only just differentiate a limerick from... erm… the others?

I an glad there is interest. I was wondering if there would be a difference category for history or historic fiction.

As this site is primarily for fiction, the new category will be for Historical Fiction.

That particular piece is too short to be in Historical Fiction, Fuzzy. It would remain in Flash Fiction because of its brevity.

Historical Fiction tells a story set in the past. The setting is usually real and drawn from history. Actual historical events are often embedded in the narrative, and actual historical figures may appear as secondary characters, but the main characters tend to be fictional. AnnaMayZing's novels "The Nurses" and "Kindred Spirits, Distant Hearts" are good examples of Historical Fiction.

Yessss! ... but not too many types because offerings can easily fit into more than category. Naturally I would suggest "Romantic" and then "Others" . How's that for an unbiased opinion?

Though a "Dedication" category would be awesome, for those who want to pay tribute etc.

While I do know a fair number of forms, I agree that genre, or maybe theme/topic, is better. I'm not generally going in looking for a sonnet or an ode. I'm looking for a love poem, nature poem, etc.

Ones I'd probably include (but there are probably more, this is just a quick brainstorm of popular poetic themes):

Romance/Love
Nature
Spirituality/Religion
Humour
History
Family

As with fiction, some poems may fit in multiple genres. I'd say pick the one that makes the most sense. My poem "On Seeing the Light (Re)born" could go in Nature or Spirituality but ... well, I'm not actually sure now where I'd put it.

I am wondering if there are any plans to go ahead and add the Historical Fiction category as was mentioned.

Thanks, Molly. It's one of my favorite categories to read and write. I'd love to post some historical things on here.

I hope this gets done soon... I would love to post my story about the murder of the Romanovs without having to add a subplot about Anastasia having sex in a closet with a Bolshevik guard.

Or my story about Anne Boleyn's execution without including her not-so romantic trysts with a gouty ginger fat-ass with a filthy infected leg wound.
