THANK YOU to everyone for making this such a fun and successful competition! The entries were varied, imaginative and high quality — and nearly all earned bonus points for being the exact maximum word length. This multi-part contest was an ambitious endeavor, but our members definitely rose to the challenge. Well done!

Congratulations to the winners, runners-up, and Top 10:

Congratulations to the winners, the runner-ups, and to the top 10! As well as the Cumulative winners.

As Maggie said, the stories were all very different and so creative. It was a pleasure to read them all! Stories Space has some wonderful talent! Well done to everyone.

May I add my congratulations to all of the winners? What a lovely job. Well done.

This was maybe the most amazing competition I have entered. The format was quite different and the ability to have multiple entries with different lengths offered some new opportunities and challenges.

And the writers of SS came through. Plenty of entries, plenty of great ideas and writing. I am so happy to have been a part of it and extends thanks to all who joined in the fun and congratulations to all who won, place, showed, or made the short list. We have a great bunch of people here.

Which brings me to ... um ... wow. I was very happy with The Goddess Dances and knew from the reactions readers expressed in the comments that it had probably the best chance of my entries, but a first place? More than I dreamed. Thanks to the judges for seeing something in it that even I may not have and to all who read and said wonderful things about it. Today, it's the ape that's dancing (hey, it's how I worship Talala )

And I see that my annual contribution to Hallowe'en managed to finish just off the podium so a hearty thank you for that, too.

And that I was just off the podium in the overall, too, for which I offer a third hearty thank you.

Halloween looms and my annual story is here. Is it a trick? Or a treat? Let me know.

It's results day

Congratulations to all the winners and everyone who entered the competition, I had great fun reading all the diverse entries. A special well done to Tam who rocks, and Anna who pipped me to second place on the cumulative podium and got a staggering amount of views on her stories. Kudos to both of you

And thank you, Stories Space, I'm delighted with my results. Cheers
Well, what can I say? My first podium finish! Thanks everyone for making such a great contest. Very well done to Tams and Welshdreamer42, both very talented writers, and to all who took part.

Cheers to Ten Years!

Congratulations! This was my second podium finish but my first win.

And you humbly failed to mention that you came 2nd in the cumulative score list as well as having a story in the top three of Full Length so well done, Anna!

Thank you, Scott, I appreciate that. Well done to you too.

Well done, everyone! What a fantastic and varied selection of stories. The site's decade has been well and truly celebrated!
Wow! What a way to wake up in the morning.

This competition was so much fun, not only from the standpoint of trying to write stories for varying word limits but also reading all the creativity that it spurred. I honestly do not know how the judge's panel was able to narrow it down to choose the podium. In my opinion, all the entries were winners.

A quick thank you to everyone who read my stories. I'm looking forward to contributing more here in the near future.

Congratulations to all who entered, your minds are amazing and inspiring.

I congratulate the podium ... Tams, Welshdreamer42, Mendalla, Paperboy, AnnaMayZing, and RedWriter ... many whom occupied the podium on multiple comps! Well done! Congrats to the remarkable rest of Top Tens!

I was also happy for first-timers, TheShyThespian and Fluttered, making Top Ten in the 2 crowded comps.

Thanks for putting on this comp and to the mods who published my entries.

Forgive me for not posting congrats yesterday. I preach to everyone to not tie self-esteem to comp results and then I let it happen for the first time. My heart was tied to "Convergence" and thus broken, but I realize my heart in it didn't automatically make it great writing. I appreciate it being published.

Don't be downhearted, Kimmi. We all have our hearts tied strongly to what we do. Judging competitions involves many aspects, not least of which has got to be personal taste. Suppose a horror author entered a competition alongside a romance author and the judge was someone who was a great fan of Stephen King. If the Horror story won, that doesn't mean that the Romance story wasn't great.
Take a step back, feel a little sorry for yourself if you like, and then get down to more writing. I've been there, done that and got a hell of a lot of T-Shirts!

The trick is... DON'T GIVE UP!

One of the best cures is to read Neil Gaiman's "Make Good Art" speech. Google it up. Very inspiring for creatives of all stripes even if Gaiman himself is primarily an author (I think it was a commencement address, but not sure now).

Erm... Did I sound a bit off? I was trying to be supportive.

Kimmi, please don’t be discouraged! Judging this contest was incredibly difficult because the entries were all good. I know how disappointing it is to have something you’ve poured your heart and soul into finish off the podium. It hurts. But it hurts a little less with time.

Note: From the time I started this reply but got called away before having a chance to finish and post it, I see that Kimmi has deleted her account. I’m sorry to see that. If anyone is in touch with her, please let her know we hope she decides to come back.

Just wondering what we get for this competition? EP’s? RRs? All prize details seem to have disappeared

I am kind of wondering, too. I think for the Summer Word Bank it was an EP for the winner and RRs for the runners-up. At least, The Berry Girl got an RR and I was third.

EDIT: Nope, it was EP for first and second, RR for third and below.

Apparently, this was the summer word bank result:

Winner $50
Folds by blackdog

Second Place $35
Of Presidents and Butt Sharks by Wordpusher715

Third Place $15
The Berry Girl by Mendalla

Except that was US$15 which means $18 in my currency once Paypal converted it. Let's just say there's a reason my wife keeps her book royalties in USD rather than converting them. Makes travel in the States cheaper not having to convert.

First place in all four categories (we’re treating cumulative score the same as the three contests) will receive $50; second place is $30; and third place, $20. I’ll be in touch with the prize winners to get contact info.

The winning entry in each contest will receive an EP, and other EPs and RRs will be given as determined by a panel of moderators and judges.

Even better! Works the other way around in Pounds Sterling. US$15 = Approx. £10.

Fantastic news, thank you
Talked to Kimmibegood on another site where we are both members. All is good. She is dealing with some difficult personal matters and that was affecting her mood. She sends congratulations to the winners and apologizes if she affected our celebrations. It was not really the comp results that upset her but the personal situation.

I hope she can work her way through to the other side and come back to us a stronger soul.

Don't get me started. I love visiting the UK but, damn, it's hard on the old pocketbook.

It's hard on the pocket even without a currency exchange!
