Hi everyone!
I was encouraged to join this site by a friend. I've been writing snowmobile-related stories for several years now, most are akin to travelogues. They are written in a casual, conversational style and include photographs with narration. I have been publishing these accounts to vintage snowmobile websites for quite some time, but have decided to bring them to this forum, upon the gentle nudging of my friend.
I am looking forward to your reading your stories, and also hearing comments and critiques of mine.

I see that no images are allowed to be posted on the site until the member has made 20 other posts. All of the stories I will be submitting include digital photographs, so I'd best work my way towards that number. I look forward to publishing several works that I have already written and am anxious to share with you all.

Rebellious_Soul, I may need to revise what I have already written, maybe eliminate many of the images and then post in chapters, as you suggest. I also got a PM about posting in chapters from Maggie.
Well, if you have any questions, I am happy to help! Perhaps someday they'll have it so you can have more then one picture.
Thank-you, R_S, if I may so abbreviate your screen name. Since posting my situation, it seems there will be a solution in my being able to get these stories posted with some images.
I do have to consider, and be fully aware of, the fact that this is indeed a writer's forum and not a photographer's forum. The last thing this 'new kid on the block' wants to do is to try to change the emphasis of this site to one of visual content over literary content.

I guess that seems appropriate, Shotgun011. The vintage snowmobile site I migrated to in it's infancy was started by all of the rejects from the others. We're proud of that.
So thanks for the welcome, and I'll take a moment to answer an unanswered question. It's not because I'm ADD or ignored it, more because I'm getting a bit long in the tooth and sometimes forget.
From Rebs: Are they singular short stories or long chapter stories?
Rebs, they are rambling short stories, if that makes any sense. They were originally posted (on the snowmobiling sites) to be read as one 'adventure' all in one chapter. To be able to include more of the images, revision into chapters will be necessary.
Be patient, those of you curious to see my work. It will come...

It's been a long week. Last Monday at this time of the evening, I was being moved from a private to a semi-private room at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital, USA. On the afternoon of Monday, March the 14th, I suffered a heart attack at my home here on Beaver Island and had to be flown from here on an emergency flight to the airport on the mainland and then be transported the rest of the way to the hospital by ambulance. Surgeons were waiting for me when I arrived and they saved my life by removing the blockage from the main artery of my heart and installing two stents. I am to have two more installed in a little less than a month.
I am back home now and living a very different lifestyle, have stopped smoking and am on a very regimented diet. In the hospital I was also diagnosed as diabetic, so am checking my glucose levels daily. I am now on 6 medications; prior to having been on none. I am not allowed to lift more than 10 lbs. (4.54 kilos), exercise vigorously or walk up stairways. Driving a car is limited to short trips only and at this point in time I tire fairly easily.
I will fully recover, if I follow doctor's orders and engage in therapy offered once I am stronger. Good news is that at present it appears I'll have a little more time to write...
My recovery from the heart attack is progressing as well as can be expected. I wanted to pop in and tell you all that although I'm still a bit sheepish on rating your works, I have enjoyed many pieces that I have read very much.

Thank-you, Maggie and meredith. Lately I have been experiencing the side effects of some of the medications, as they begin to work within my body. It has taken some time for them to build up to a strength where they are actually doing their job, but that has not come without some discomfort. But enough griping, I am alive.
I actually have written and posted two more stories to the snowmobiling sites I belong to, since returning home from the hospital. Unfortunately, these ride accounts would make no sense to most people here without the many accompanying photographs, and would have to be so edited without the pics that they would bear little resemblance to what I originally wrote. I am at this point still restricted (not enough posts) to even include a link, so you can't see the original threads I posted on those sites.
It's frustrating, and I'm beginning to think that my 'travelogues' will not be a good fit here. Multiple chapters just so that more pictures can be included would still mean that many shots would need to be eliminated, and IMO, editing into 'chunks' will take away from the flow of the travelogue. I hesitate to change stories, like one in particular, that was so well received that it became 'pinned' or 'stickied' to one of the snowmobile sites. It has had over 5000 views and has garnered many favorable comments. I refuse to wreck my work.
I probably will need to consider writing some fiction instead, based on one of these snowmobile journeys. Conveying the feeling of the remoteness of my locality and what sub-freezing cold, deep snow, and 2 foot thick ice is like and then having that make sense to people will be the challenge.
I don't seem to have much to write about except my health lately. Last Thursday I had more surgery, this time four more stents were put in my remaining plugged arteries for a total of six since the heart attack. I lost some of my heart's ability to pump since last month, as well. This prompted the doctor to send me home in a defib vest that has the ability to shock my heart back into rhythm if it needs it. They also put me on two additional meds.
The only thing good about this post is that it gets me closer to being able to post a photograph or a link. At this point, that's pretty hard to get excited about. I just want to feel better.
