SS Milestone - 10 years - when did you join?

So, I joined in April 2014 but didn't publish anything here until 2017. Not sure now why the lag, though I was helping found another (non-writing) site where I am still an admin so maybe that accounts for it. And I do write for another site as some here know.

The first story I published here was Voice of Ice, which is cosmic horror in the vein of H. P. Lovecraft. Only 1800 words and change. It has a bit of history and an earlier version resided on a now defunct webzine edited by an old (and, alas, late) friend of mine. As the last remaining story from earlier (nineties) flirtation with being a writer, I have a fondness for it but would be first to admit it isn't my best work.

This seems to be the year I am ramping up my involvement here. My Summer Word Bank third prize winner The Berry Girl is my current favorite, I think, but the ghost story I put out for Hallowe'en last year, Lady in the Lake, is probably my best work on SS to date.

I joined and submitted my first piece here on Oct. 12, 2010.

“The Pants on the Floor,” a humorous poem written about a year and a half earlier but previously shared only with friends, was one of two submissions posted that day (the other was a Dirty Martini poem).

With friends and family along with me sharing the link, Pants quickly became the most popular piece on the site, and it remains among the top five or so. It is still one of my personal favorites. Oh, and on the topic of milestones, the clotheshorse and I will celebrate our anniversary in a couple of weeks. Maybe I’ll get him a new shirt.

I joined the 13th of October 2010, the first day the site was live in my time zone.

The Raft is the first story I had published here, on December 16th, 2010. It has been given an Editor's Pick badge, is available in audio, and is the most popular in the Stories category here on the site.

The tags are childhood, sisters, summer, trust - if you were to add lake and swimming to those, it would pretty much sum it up.

It's still better to read it though, there's more to it than those tags.

I became a member of Stories Space on December 21st, 2012.

My first story was a poem published on December 22nd, 2012. It was a poem written about a scene I witnessed in the apartment building where I was living. My wife and I were staying there for a short period as we searched for a new home. We stayed there for three months and moved into our present townhome on January 1st, 2013.

The poem was called Moving Day. It was a poetic story about a family moving out of their apartment once more on their life's journey. It is only 77 words long. It was verified by Magnificent1rascal. My first approval from Maggie.

It is certainly not my favorite. It was so early in my writing efforts. But I still think it has some merit.

One of my favorite poems I posted here is The Four Seasons. It's a collection of Haiku poems. The audio was read by Daisy.

The subject matter of my work continues to be based on things that happen around me in real life, my thoughts on seeing interesting pictures, and challenges I make to myself concerning new ways to write and new formats to use. I like growing in my work.

My writing has been received well here on our site. I have always appreciated the way people read and give me positive feedback. My present challenge, along with writing as many stories as I can for this competition, is to reach 500 published works here.

I joined in December 2015. A few friends had told me about it and I followed them over here eventually.

My first story was a poem. I like this one. Most of my poetry is rather awful. This was about finding me and letting someone in to help me see who I could be with love and support.

This one I am most proud of. I wrote it for my Dad when he was in the early stages of dementia. I wrote it three years ago and I honestly thought by now he would be so much worse. He seems to have stabilized his memory loss this last year. I am grateful for that gift however long it lasts. In the poem, I talk about my father flying em through the air. Recently my cousin found a lot of films her dad, my uncle had filmed. She had it digitized and there was footage of my father throwing me into the air and laughing.

I hope I have become a better writer over time. I enjoy writing but for some reason, I have not been able to write anything decent in a few years. No idea why. It makes me sad some days. I hope that creative spark will return eventually.

Stories Space has always been a welcoming, supportive, safe place to come and hang out. Even if I don't write anymore I still love to read and this site has so many good choices to choose from.

I joined on October 30, 2013. Hmm, my 7-year anniversary is coming up.

Like so many others, I wrote a story and was told it would be a better fit for Stories Space. Oddly enough it was rejected here too. So, I cleaned it up and posted my first story At A Crossroads on November 6, 2013. That is a story that I love the idea behind, but I don't promote it because I would eventually like to go back through and make it more. Make it better.

A lot of what I have posted here is poetry. I'm sorry to admit that the bulk of it is angsty. Probably because I never write poetry unless my emotions are high. For me, the one that still hits me the hardest to read is The Whipping Post. There is so much hurt and anger expressed in that, that it took me a while to actually share it with anyone.

The story I am most proud of would have to be the six-part series The Littlest Red Hood. That story started out as just a small little idea and it took on a life of its own. There are still so many things I can do with it. So many ways it can grow.

It is pretty amazing to see how differently I write now compared to 2013. The amount of knowledge and growth provided to me from Stories Space is undeniable. It has helped me become, not only a better writer but a writer that wants more.
