Story Submission: A Step-by-Step Approach

Content Restrictions — The first consideration for a submission to Stories Space is whether it belongs on this site. Please take note of the following before submitting:

• Stories Space doesn’t publish erotica. While we will allow a story that contains a few tastefully written sex scenes, if a story is primarily sex-focused, it isn't suitable for this site.
• Even in stories deemed appropriate for this site, any sex scene must involve consenting characters aged eighteen or older.
• Graphic, gratuitous gore is not allowed.
• Scenes, where animal abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse, or torture are described in detail, aren't permitted. If a character witnessed or endured such acts in the past, mentioning it is okay but lengthy scenes are something we want to avoid.
• Stories containing racist remarks/hate speech, the word suicide(there are other creative ways to get this across without using the word), etc., aren't allowed.

Keep in mind the underlying principle of our [b]submission guidelines: “If your story or poem is more likely to upset or offend rather than entertain, please refrain from submitting it to this site.”

Category — There may be a certain amount of overlap in category selection. If a submission fits into more than one genre, use your best judgment and add any “subcategories” as tags.

• Some categories have a maximum word count. Micro Fiction should contain no more than 100 words, and Flash Fiction no more than 1,000 words.
• The Musings category is intended for submissions that ponder the bigger questions in life, rather than a category for rants or a place to take private disputes public.
• The moderator verifying your submission may move it to a different category that he/she feels is more appropriate.

Rating — Please try to select the proper rating under the following guidelines:

G - Written with a general audience in mind and suitable for readers of all ages. This story does not contain any references to sex, drugs, alcohol, violence, or swearing.

13+ - Suitable for readers aged thirteen and over. Please be aware that this story may contain low to high levels of violence, swearing, and references to drugs, alcohol, or sex. Tags will be important for you to know what to expect.

As always we do not allow erotic or sexually forward stories. As well as stories containing extreme levels of violence. Please reference our site rules above for details.

*Please note this has been updated from previous ratings.

Title — The title should pertain to the submission, should not be in ALL CAPS, and should not contain a period/full stop or other punctuation at the end.

Tags — Tags are used to aid in searching for stories about a particular topic. They should be descriptive and pertinent to the story. Please do not include a comma following the last item in the tag list.

One-liner — The one-liner is not required. If used, it should relate to the submission being verified. A plea to vote and/or comment is not an acceptable one-liner.

Cover Image — The image accompanying a submission, if included, should be appropriate for the story or poem. Explicit images aren't allowed, and the author should own the image or have obtained permission to post it.
